Now....what should i do with this?
Re: Now....what should i do with this?
The management at the CHLR decided that today was naming day for engine number 5 - Meteor - below are a couple of ex works photos of the loco on it special day:-
Here some of the lads have a chat with Beardy Bob the driver
Here Meteor head out on its first revenue earning train
And returns safely
and finally........... a reminder where we started
Hopefully I'll have video to follow soon of the finished engine in action

Comparing the two images I would call that a transformation and a great success, well done.

Mark, you should submit it as model of the month on the 16mm NGM site as it will be something different for a change:

Re: Now....what should i do with this?
I agree with Tom that's a cracking loco and shows what some tlc and craftsmanship can do.
Re: Now....what should i do with this?
Thanks for all the great comments and feedback
Tom - I'll drop the 16mmm guys a note to see if they'd be interested
Cheers

Do it, that is very, very impressive and Big Big bashing was how many people started out in the hobby. I think I have said before that it is nice to see someone have a go at the steam outline model as these tended to just get used for the chassis.
If at first you don't succeed, use a bigger hammer!
Re: Now....what should i do with this?
Thank again for the positive copies - writing a piece for 16mm is on my todo list
Heres a quick video of Meteor in action - been meaning to get loaded up to Youtube for a while now!

Full write up now available at the 16mm Society website - Tom, you were right, they were interested in it as model of the month!

PS - since writing that I have now fitted deltang which has greatly improved the controllability and that has included me squeezing 8 AAA's under the bonnet - getting used to the power on tap! (my other locos run with 4!)
Here we have some slow running!

Looking good all round Mark.
The R/c certainly makes a difference as well.

This has been a well written and illustrated article indeed, but only one of many, dependent on individuals interests.tom_tom_go wrote: ↑Mon Jul 02, 2018 12:37 pm Great read Mark, if only more 16mm NGM article's were that interesting!
As a 'one-stop' resource this Forum must surely rank head and shoulders above others and supplies details and information to a wide range of tastes across the 'all scales and gauges' heading.
We certainly have the quality of members to keep us supplied with articles, perhaps we are short on quantity?

Re: Now....what should i do with this?
Agree, a really helpful article. Particularly pleased that the 16mm Assoc is prepared to publish articles showing battery powered steam outline locos. I might have a go with an article about one of my builds..... Thanks too about the reminder about using nail art dots as rivet heads. I'd forgotten about that.
Also, good to see a mention of the GR Forum. Might attract a few more active members.

Rik - you definitely should - also the 16mm SMT magazine and the Garden Rail magazine I'm sure would hoover up any contributions you would offer - for instance the sawmill and boiler house would be fantastic articles as well as one of your many loco builds - you have a great way of explaining things in words and pics!

Re: Now....what should i do with this?
On arriving home tonight after being away with work, I found this months Garden Rail magazine - and inside on page 34, Meteor stars across a number of pages
I thought I'm famous then I noticed Phil had got me down as Mark Hill instead of Hirst - the Hill in Castle Hill Light Railway must have distracted him
Oh well - still very proud of the article and he has done a great job in setting it out

Re: Now....what should i do with this?
I really enjoyed the article, Mark. Nicely written and illustrated. I'd forgotten who'd given me the tip about using nail art dots as rivets. Incredibly good value at no more than a couple of quid for 1000. And you don't have the faff of having to separate them from the sprue. I've now got bags of 1mm, 2mm and 3mm half round (ie domed) as well as 1mm hexagonal for bolt heads.
