FWLR ROLLING STOCK
FWLR ROLLING STOCK
Well it’s all been topsy turvy here since moving, but I have managed to complete a sort of Rolling Stock project I working on before we were told about having to move. This was supposed to be a static Diesel engine for Anne’s Slate Mine on here Fairy Garden, but now it will who knows what will happen to it.
Anyway I asked Nicki from SLR Models if she could make me a Lister engine for it, she did and I am rather pleased with how it turned out. I have painted it a lighter green because when it’s weathered, which I have done now, it is looking good Anne say’s anyway with the oil and Diesel spills.
There is a pdf attachment with the kit which although is good, I think most people would find this a very easy kit to build.
I scratch built the cab from guess what, (yes the coffee stirrers) lol, and the cab roof is a thin piece of plasticard, with some kitchen paper again PVA’d to make it look like it is tar’d.
It will be going on the new line but has yet where………………..

Re: FWLR ROLLING STOCK
Well done Rod, that's a great looking little loco and a promising beginning for the new line.
The best things in life are free.... so why am I doing this?
Re: FWLR ROLLING STOCK
Looking good, either needs a motor or a motorised wagon, too good to be static!
Re: FWLR ROLLING STOCK
My thoughts exactly (on both counts). A motorised trailer of some sort would finish it off nicely.

You know what to do! I agree, that lovely little model need to run...
Glad to see that the house-moving chaos has reduced enough to allow for some therapeutic modelling...
Cheers,
Andrew.

Battery Electric Chassis Kit from HGLW http://www.eagleassist.com/hglw/Locos.html, and then build a van body or a covered deep waggon body using more coffee stirrers - job done!

Re: FWLR ROLLING STOCK
Finally finished the Slate/Coal Wagon for Anne’s Lister, it just needs some weathering now and it will be going on the line. But I have been told it will have priority on the slate mine
Oh well not to worry hopefully I can get to run it on the main line sometime
The wagon load is real coal bashed a bit with the old hammer and PVA’d on to the insert.

Re: FWLR ROLLING STOCK
More photo’s of the wagon.
Added the rivets with nail art plastic studs and made the buffers from two strips of basswood.
I thought it needed a Slate Load has well, so I made another insert, although this is slightly heavier than the coal insert, but it does run on the wagon….
Just needs weathering and off it goes…..

You could be right there Tom….
Maybe a chain or two would suffice…..

Re: FWLR ROLLING STOCK
Thought I should really put my other builds of the slate wagons on here.
I got them from Andrew of this parish and I think he did a fantastic job on the build and weathering.
I made the slates from a slat off a wooden blind.
I since blacken the chains by heating them up to just going red hot, then dropping them into cold water.
