Anyone thinking of ordering the upcoming Roundhouse double Fairlie?
Best wishes,
Dave

Nope, wrong scale (and I couldn't afford it anyway). I've sworn that since I will soon have a fiber laser for cutting metal and I'm training as a CNC machinist, I will not buy RTR locos anymore.

Same with me. I recently saw the "plan" view of it and beside 45mm track I knew it was too small :D
Best wishes,

Not me. Too expensive for me and not even on my wants list.

That makes sense, since Taliesin was also non-adjustable. Do we have any ideas about pricing?

I would guess something in the region of the price of the Beyer-Garratt; articulated loco with two power units.

Unfortunately it's difficult to justify the Roundhouse one when we already have a Peter Angus James Spooner. Some of our locals will be buying one though...

I don't see why it should be the same price as a Beyer-Garratt as the power bogie on it's own is about £600 and if you say the rest of the loco is no more 'bulk' than a typical scale £2000 loco that they produce it should be by my reckoning be no more than 3K.

It's on the Roundhouse website as DLG, I would love one if it could be made as Merddin Emrys, apart from colour and nameplates how different are the two locomotives ?

I've just checked my brilliant book ' Fairlie Locomotives of North Wales' and they look very similar apart from that Merddin Emrys has a 1 foot longer wheelbase and a more closely sheeted in cab side, visually you can see a bit more boiler from the side in front of the sandboxes, wouldn't worry me.

Differences between DLG and Merrdin include:
- Smokebox doors, handles and handrails
- Clack valves on top of boiler behind chimney (DLG only)
- Different cab side profiles (more open on DLG, enclosed on ME)
- Length of side tanks (longer on DLG)
- Position of sand pots (alongside smokeboxes on DLG, alongside boiler on ME)

Quite a lot then Tony, wonder how many people would notice? (Other than experienced FR footplate crew) :D

There are several of those Bachmann electric Fairlies around painted as Merddin, and that too is a model of DLG!

There is a lovely 16mm cut away model of Merddin Emrys in the booking office at FR Harbour Station no idea who made it?

That was a Bachman Fairlie. Lightline painted it.
