Deltang Rx temperature cut off?

Post by tom_tom_go » Sat Jan 13, 2018 4:37 pm

Does the Rx102 turn itself off if it exceeds a certain temperature?

Fault finding an issue at the moment and just wondering if this is a possibility.

Hi Tom
I'm not aware of a thermal cut-off - the chip on the Rx has an operating temperature range of 0-70C - not sure if that's significant

Thanks Rik.

I think I am just being paranoid about the chip getting too hot and turning itself off for a period to cool.

I reckon the fault is the batteries not holding their charge anymore. This is the second time I have come to use this loco and the Rx works for a few minutes then nothing but works fine after a full charge.

Does sound like a battery problem or a connection fault

I thought I would check the wiring as you mentioned a connection fault Rik and you were right!

An over tightened zip tie had damaged the battery connection wiring so replaced this and all is well (gave me a chance to redo some of my early soldering, I clearly have improved over time from what I pulled out this evening!)

Still something wrong here on today's firing.

Works fine when turned on then when I am ready with steam up and fire ready I get no response from Rx.

I have noticed sometimes when I turn on the Rx102 the LED light flashes constantly fast and does not respond to the Tx. Switching the power off and on sorts it out but it happens regularly so maybe a faulty Rx?

Does it make any difference if the aerial is stretched out straight?

Nope.

I sent it back to Phil (RC Trains) and he replicated the fault I was having with the Rx and will be issuing me a replacement when in stock.

I am glad though Phil is continuing the excellent customer service you provided when running the business Rik.

Glad you got it sorted out Tom. I had a handful of returns while I was running the business (I sold over 350 Rxs in the space of a year). Normally the Rxs are very reliable but sometimes they go wrong. Nice to hear the Phil is keeping up the same level of customer service. He's a very nice chap.
