Vale of Fairway
Re: Vale of Fairway
Er! the size of this building is starting to show, like the timber colour.

Re: Vale of Fairway
I love it.
A resin or plastic built building never looks as realistic as when you use real world materials, my opinion only of course.

Yep, I agree, it's looking good though and I like the colour as well.
My brain still 'see's' things in 4mm and it always surprises me when my buildings turn out to be so big in reality!

Yet too build one, but I am sure it will not be as good has others on the forum

Re: Vale of Fairway
A sneaky test run in the kitchen forgetting Mrs B was coming early for our solicitors appointment. I've ordered some hinges for the main doors but my wood delivery still hasn't arrived. Helpful Royal mail tracking shows the parcel was scanned this morning whatever that means. Can't decide whether to use foamboard or wood for internal dummy frame, most of it won't be seen so foamboard may be easier.

Re: Vale of Fairway
The cladding looks just right, correct planking width and colour spot-on.
I used dolls house hinges on my engine shed but as it is left out in all weathers they gave up after a couple of winters. Do you plan to store this under cover when not in use?

PS Has rail height been allowed for?

Re: Vale of Fairway
It is a snug fit but will be resting on a concrete base with rails embedded so if anything I've got few more millimetres of clearance.
I think it will come in over the winter to protect the wood from the worst of the weather. The hinges...perhaps I should think about something in brass but upscale and try and hide tem as much as possible. Makes you wonder whether a length of piano hinge would be less obvious. I think Jackson's do some finer ones.Peter Butler wrote: ↑Fri Jan 26, 2018 6:04 pm

Re: Vale of Fairway
Shame I didn't do the test run in situ...tight as a third in a trumpet as Miss Teatime would say....
Accept it is a confined space? Remove the angle siding? Start again....I don't think so.

Re: Vale of Fairway
I think I might trim it back 36mm or two lengths of cladding , means the door doesn't overhang the concrete base. No wonder Carillion had problems, this size building isn't easy.
Re: Vale of Fairway
It's not easy to see wthout a more distant shot, but could you move the angled siding point over, to come off the bend just visible on the LH side?

Will take a rough shot of 40mm shorter as well

Re: Vale of Fairway
Could you hang the door from the centre post? The diagonal bracing would be correct if hung from the opposite side.

Re: Vale of Fairway
Lose the siding altogether, do you really need it?
You can leave the point in place and lock it off.

Re: Vale of Fairway
I had a similar problem when I resited my engine shed. I placed a stop between the shed road and the offending other track to stop the door fouling it. A compromise would be to use Peter's idea but have double doors, one of which is hung on the centre pillar.
It looks, however, as if you have solved it by reducing the length of the shed.
