inspirational (?) photos
Just curious what gets peoples railway juices flowing. Found this shot of the closed Garside quarry in Leighton Buzzard this afternoon (and I'm free to share it) and thought it was a cracker. No trains but loads of atmosphere....to me. Perfick!

Agreed... not pretty but oozing with character.

Nothing in Leighton Buzzard is pretty.
Nice picture, the LB is probably my favourite of all the preserved ng lines as it seems to have kept it's industrial feel. The north Wales lines are very impressive but they have been a bit too tarted up for my liking.

For me, it wasn't a photo, it was a video - Rails to Southwold. I can't post a link to it as it's only available commercially, but there's an equally inspiring, if somewhat poignant, Gaumont Newsreel film showing the last train on the railway available on YouTube.

I discovered this video just two evenings ago and enjoyed the film very much.... little wonder the line was forced to close.

Re: inspirational (?) photos
The hallmark of a successful railway build is one which looks good with no trains present. It's how railways are seen most of the time in reality! I've a feeling it's something to do with the anticipation that something may turn up. It's got everything to do with the railways relationship with the landscape too!

Great photo Derek, just lets the imagination flow thinking it was a very busy place at one time.

Great video Rik, love the signalman rushing to change the signal, then the train taking twice as long to get to it...nice speed.

I think I was just the other side of that huge embankment the other week - just north of Tan y Bwlch station - just rather a lot more trees there now!
Where did I put that uncoupler?

Seen this before somewhere, but thanks again for posting, it shows how powerful these little engines were.

Not to bothered about correct English, just about the engine itself.
