A joy to watch Rik.
I would love to blast a live steamer through the woodland on your line.

Amazing, convincing, wonderful work there Rik. Everything looks so right in your settings and with the dappled sunlight through the trees I really thought I was there!
So glad the weather was fine for your NZ visitor, he looked as though he was in railway heaven too.

The best things in life are free.... so why am I doing this?
Re: Market Day on the PLR
He's the first visitor I've had who's thoroughly enjoyed shunting the pickup goods at each station on the line. He's over here for three weeks and so may make a return visit.Peter Butler wrote: ↑Sun Oct 29, 2017 10:18 am So glad the weather was fine for your NZ visitor, he looked as though he was in railway heaven too.

Beautiful scenery Rik. Are you a natural gardener as the planting looks so realistic ? I agree with Tom it's the sort of backdrop that you would like to see your own stock running in.
Re: Market Day on the PLR
In some ways I suppose I am ....... In that nothing is particularly planned (as in nature). I stick something in the soil and if it grows it's in the right place, if it doesn't then it ain't. It's a sort of Darwinian approach.
Thanks for the compliment, though. I have tried to create a natural feel to the landscape.

Re: Market Day on the PLR
BTW - You may have noticed that the pickup goods travels down the line without shunting wagons and does most of its shunting on the way back up the line. This is because the sidings at the intermediate stations are all facing Up, so it makes shunting a lot easier. The only exception is, of course, if any wagons need to be picked-up and then delivered further Down the line (which can sometimes happen).
I worked this trick out after running trains for about six years - and then discovered that this sort of practice was done on 'real' branch lines.

Superb Rik. So nice to see the line in full swing. Great to see the new locos at work too!
"Smith! Why do you only come to work four days a week?
"'cause I can't manage on three gaffer!"

Thanks Andrew. Yes, decided it was time the Black Hawthorn was given some general goods duties and the Stainz bash was allocated to a special train. Some of my early builds are getting a bit jealous of the attention the new girls are getting so maybe the next run will be Southwold focused.Soar Valley Light wrote: ↑Mon Oct 30, 2017 8:25 pm Superb Rik. Great vid ,it’s nice to see trains running at a nice slow plod , with a purpose , in beautiful scale like surroundings . Very inspirational
Always look on the bright side of life.
Re: Market Day on the PLR
Thanks - that's very reassuring . You've put your finger on exactly what I aimed to achieve when I built the railway. Still got a way to go in building-up the lineside infrastructure, but getting there bit by bit.

Re: Market Day on the PLR
Yes, it was a good couple of days. Great to have a fellow operator solely devoted to running the pickup goods. That meant I could run the other trains around it - almost like running a real railway except we communicated directly rather than through block instruments and signals ....
I have realised though, I need to set up the market day goods services at least the (model) day before, to give time for the local farmers to have their livestock and other saleable items loaded early in the morning on Market Day. I'm going to have to draw up a two-(model)day schedule for Market Days. Just trying to decide whether to incorporate that into the computer program. It might not be necessary as the Market Day Special is not part of the normal traffic scheduling

Re: Market Day on the PLR
I think I would put it as a separate program for the Market Days myself, if I was intelligent enough to do it...lol
Seriously it would keep it safe from being deleted and easier to make any fine tuning wouldn’t it Rik.

As Mr. Butler has said "this is what keeps us awake at nights"I'm going to have to draw up a two-(model)day schedule for Market Days.
