Should I heat it first then bend around a nail?
This is M2 rod like what is used on RH servo linkages.

Re: Bending steel push rod
In my experience 2mm diameter mild steel will easily bend cold, providing the bend radius is not too tight. However this does depend on the quality of the steel and I have found that some of the rodding sold for servos may have a higher carbon content, which makes for a stronger steel but it doesn't like bending cold without fracturing.
To be on the safe side heat it and bend whilst still at red heat. What sort of radius are you proposing to bend it to?

Re: Bending steel push rod
Thanks Phil. The push rod I did have snapped after several rebending attempts while cold.
The max bend I will have to do is 180 degrees so will use heat once my replacements arrive.
