I see your lite-coloured unit has the same detail problem as our cleaning loco'. The headlight rings just don't want to stay on. Maybe a small dot of paint on the inside of the ring will hold the loose ones in place. Will try that when i get back ...
Will be dropping by in the future, to see you lighting improvements !! If process descriptive and easy enough for a novice I may actually try it

Great job Steve - where did you source those smoke units? Interested for a possible steam outline batter project..... and what voltage do they run off? can they run from a direct connection to your battery or do you need to step the power down?

They are Seuthe ones, NO.28 type from Peters Spares - http://www.petersspares.com/
16-22V so i ran them using the 'track power' output from the DCC chip (the other options i have are 10v & 5v).
I did notice they don't work on my programming track which is only 12V.
Seuthe do a wide range of sizes and operating voltages, plenty in the 12V range
