Lamp Brackets and Smokebox Apron for my IP Jane

Post by alan2525 » Mon Nov 17, 2008 11:46 pm

I added a few extra little details to my IP Jane, I've purchased a couple of those little lamps with the inbuilt battery and needed a way of attaching them to my loco's as neither the Jane, nor the Millie have any lamp irons suitable.

GRS sell them, part number FG240

They are mighty expensive though! Nice thing is being able to remove them without needing any battery or expensive plugs and switches in the stock. Just a very scale lamp iron on each item of your stock and yer good to go! It's neat though the little chimney threads down and engages the switch! Thread it all the way down and the two parts come apart to change the battery!

They look really good (the lamps). I have been tempted by them before.

I assume they take a small watch type battery?

Yes, thats right. I'm not sure how small the battery must be though as it must be a real push for space inside the lamp! I assume the switch just works by the screw pushing down on the legs on the led onto the battery contact to complete the circuit. Clever stuff though as they are all brass too, would have thought it could short!

I haven't taken one apart yet, but it'd be nice If I could do something similiar with the little brass lamps I cnc'd up a little while back!

Do you mean Chuffed 2 bits?, as far as i am aware lineside delights do not produce a working version like this. The pair i have are from Chuffed 2 Bits and were about £15 a pop.
Thanks,

Sorry, yes, Chuffed2Bits, both of their bits are so nice I get confussed! It was your tail lamp that convinced me I needed one.

These lamps are manufactured by Tony Sant of Finescale Engineering. The LNER lamp has a removeable base so replacing the battery is straightforward. I'm not so sure about the others but Tony offers a battery replacement service for £3.
