posting photos
posting photos
Could someone please tell me the sequence of events to allow me to post photos to this forum?
Sandy,
Method 1: an image on your own computer
Create a new Topic or Click the "postreply" button below left of this message.
(A posting dialog box will come up.)
Click 'Attach File' in dark blue, bottom left of the dialog box.
(a new dialog window will pop up):
Use it to:
- choose an image file from your computer - usually a JPEG, GIF or PNG. Keep it below 1Mb in size.
- select how big you want it to appear - 640 to 800 wide is good.
- whether you want it rotated.
- whether you want the whole image to appear inside your Reply, or alternatively a thumbnail that can be clicked to open it in a new window, like this:
Click to see full size image
- add a description if you want to.
Click "Upload File"
This will upload your picture into a website associated with this forum - in effect a crude 'database' of all our pictures. It also puts two lines of HTML into the bottom of your reply dialog. This contains both the filename and the URL of the uploaded picture (and therefore gives the illusion of being duplicated).
Cut and Paste that block of HTML to the position in your text that you want the picture to appear.
Click "Preview" to see you you're doing.
The image should appear in your message, but note that it isn't actually 'there' - it's 'in' the associated database, and if that is messed with the image will disappear from your message.
Click "Submit" once it's ready to go.
Method 2 - an image from the internet
Start a post or reply as before.
Open your web image in a separate browser web or tab.
Copy its URL and Paste it into your message box:
http://gardenrails.myfreeforum.org/temp ... GRFred.jpg
Highlight the URL and click IMG in the menu above the dialog box:
The image should appear in your message, but again note that it isn't actually 'there' - it's 'in' its original website, and if that is messed with the image will disappear from your message.
Click Submit.
These two methods are in fact one and the same, differing only in 'where' the image 'is' and the degree of handholding you get to place it there. On forums that don't have an upload mechanism, or that charge a premium for posting pictures, all you have to do is post your pictures to a website of your own, and then paste the URLs into your messages.
