I have just started to reassemble my Merlin Maestro after painting the body.

I decided to give the chassis a good clean while all the body was off. I have used carb cleaner in an aerosol for a number of years to do this. I don't know what the merlin chassis and footplate was painted with but the carb cleaner took it straight off. No sign of primer just black paint straight to brass.

Oh well, looks like the Merlin won't be back in steam for next week end.
If at first you don't succeed, use a bigger hammer!

Merlin paint was always pretty tough – I suspect that painting this chassis has been done before...
