I hope I don't sound harsh, but I think people who go to the trouble of building kits should be rewarded with nicer-looking engines. There's nothing wrong with the standard Roundhouse engines, I think the extra special ones should belong to the people who go to the effort of building or modifying them, instead of just the people who have money to spend.tom_tom_go:116125 wrote: It shows that RH need to update their body kits on some of their classic locos such as Lady Anne to compete with this level.
When all is said and done, do you really save any money by building a kit instead of buying a completed engine? Maybe a little - but the main thing is the accomplishment, and also the opportunity to build a "special" engine. Personally I approve of these after-market body kits.
Roundhouse could update their bodies, but this would just serve to make them even less affordable than before.
They look like the steam turret parts off a Millie, so Roundhouse should be able to supply.Steve:116153 wrote:Where could I get these from?

Just a quick update
Released from PW dept but I have promised to help when the temperature warms up.
The Banjo is from a RH millie BUT the side takeoff is 3/16. They sent the ring with a hole and a fitting from the end of the T super-heater pipe. A bit of silver soldering and a quick pickle and its looking good.
The 2 plates have been scraped and new ones cut.
Just fitted rivets into 1 buffer beam, the other 1 to go.
Hopefully get some painting done tomorrow.

That is looking very good Steve, congratulations on the extra work you have put into it.
Somewhat along the lines of what Keith said, I think Roundhouse produce a very good loco, but also the various component parts are proven reliable. With some pushing and pulling and perhaps a body kit, it is possible for those who wish, to build an engine with a completely different appearance knowing that the basic boiler, cylinder, valve gear match will work.
Grant.
