Rik, I have just read through your blog about the building techniques used for the copper mine and you have gone to enormous lengths to create a most impressive structure. I am going to emulate (copy!) several of your ideas and trace some of the materials you have used there. Interesting how you say it probably wouldn't withstand the weather despite your attempts to protect it. I must admit, the use of some timbers has always concerned me, even though they are sold as 'exterior' grade. However, if they are made in such a way they are easily set up then a whole range of products suddenly become available to add realism.
Congratulations on the end result, and particularly on your detailed explanation of the methods you invented.

Thank you for sharing your building prosess with us. And it is very helpful and gives a lot of inspiration.

When visiting you a few month ago, I was very impressed how your layout was. And all the buildings around your garden railway.
I'm now planning my own mine and siding on my PHRy, and your Copper mine has given me some ideas how my structures should be.

You told me that the base structure was treated ply, but due to the humid climate the buildings was stored inside to avoid moisture damage.
For my own mine and siding I've ordered some plastic structure sheets from plastrukt.com. These sheets will cover the base structure which is 5mm acrylic. And I also purcased a brewery kit from Piko, and I would use elements from this kit to combine with the plastrukt-sheets. Then I'll hope this would help to leave the buildings outside in all kind of weather.

Thanks for the feedback, chaps. I'll be really interested to see how your buildings develop Kjell. I did wonder about plastic sheeting but didn't find anything at the time which looked robust enough. There's a chap on GSC (Mike Duffy) who uses plastic foamboard and achieves some really impressive effects.

That looks like a most versatile and user friendly material. Others have recommended it before and I am determined to give it a try. At the moment I am content with the ones I use but when I begin my village scene it should be just the job.
