30th Anniversary of the Coniston Railway
30th Anniversary of the Coniston Railway
Today, the oldest railway in the North West Area Group celebrated 30 years of operation with a full NWAG steamup, themed around locos from the 1970's and 80's. As a result there were a few vintage items in evidence, along with more modern locos from those who don't anything heritage (ie me!). Mr T of the Coniston Railway had provided a number of photo albums showing the past 30 years of the CR, plus pics of other NWAG lines over the years. The Coniston Railway you may remember is small, but perfectly formed with possibly the best scenary of any 16mm scale line I've visited.
The Compton Down Railway was represented by number 8, now owned by SLRmidge
As number 8 rolls back in, locos from the Poolend Garden Railway await their turn of duty at Greenodd sheds
Having nothing heritage, I'd thought I'd at least go for heritage style. A Millie really is a modern day "old" Roundhouse engine, with a pot boiler and slip eccentric valve gear
Gwydion eases into the picturesque station of Blawith
Yes, its true, PTLRcecils Chaloner can now do more then pull the skin off a rice pudding. He's upped the voltage to 18v, whilst making the battery truck more appropriate. The loco has also had its name made official with tiny nameplates, "Starbuck"
Guillimot eases towards the junction on the return line
Mr and Mrs T toast 30 years of the railway, together with the first loco and a birthday cake
The loco on the special was this Merlin-beck, still with its original radio control and running gear
Mr T blows out the birthday candles
PTLRcecil bought Gussie the rare and possibly unique Beeson-Beck. Its seen here coming from Blawith under the bridge
More heritage with an 0-4-0 Roundhouse Dylan
Compton Down train
Number 8 and Dylan on shed
Starbuck *sigh* and the tippers
Finally Gussie brings the last train passed Lowick junction
Many thanks to Mr T at the Coniston Railway for a great afternoon, here's to the next 30 years!

"What the hell is that?"
"It's a model icebreaker sir."
"It's a bit big isn't it?"
"It's a full scale model sir....."

I think so, not 100% sure. The rail is Tenmille and is actually taller then Peco sm32hussra:59539 wrote:Love the track - really nice lightweight, narrow gauge look. Is it those pre-pinned sleepers Brandbright used to do?

No, unfortunately. I've only ever visited this line twice, and this topic contained most of the pics from the second visit.Big Jim:108733 wrote:Very nice pics and an interesting collection of motive power. Any more pics?
The Beeson beck is probably more then a re-body, it is an 0-4-2T for a start, and also has other mods I believe.
