I have not built one, but there was a review and article on building one in one of the mags, can't remember which though.
The general consensus was that it was nice to build but a complete swine to fit batteries in, I think the bloke had to have battery packs made up to fit.

There is a full build description of the DeWinton, along with improvements and further detailing written by Steve Holland, a friend of mine.  If you Google: narrowgaugeandindustrial.com/resources/dewinton it should show. It will be top of the list!

I don't have a dewinton, but I do have one of the slate wagons, they take some building, but I'm very pleased with the results.

Im building one at the moment. Nice kit.the inside valve gear is quite complicated. Mines got all the r/c gear on the loco and the batteries will be in a wagon behind.
Best wishes

I've not built the loco but I have built a load of Slaters slate wagons. They go together nicely but are best soldered for maximum strength. The braked ones can be a bit fiddly. Some variety can be achieved by changing the axle box pattern (two types available) and wheels (three types available).

Very nice kit to build. Takes a while to fettle the motion so it doesnt catch. Highly recommended but not for a beginer.
Best wishes

Very good result. I have fancied one of these for a while and now Slaters have announced the WD Baldwin kits as well, I think need to save my pennies.

I have always found that Slaters kits in both 7mm and 4mm are great to build with good instructions but as you say not really for the beginner.
