Heritage register, Merlin and others?
Heritage register, Merlin and others?
With the current interest on the forum in Merlin and the like. I would like to propose a register of any old locos that members may have kicking about.
It might be nice to see what stuff from the early days of the hobby are still extant.
I suggest that anything from the 1970's or 80's.
To start with I own;
1 Merlin Maestro
1 Archangel Brick
Plus the remains of a steamcraft atlas.
I will post pics when my camera battery had been changed.

You proposed it - you do it!Big Jim:108185 wrote:With the current interest on the forum in Merlin and the like. I would like to propose a register of any old locos that members may have kicking about.
The only "heritage" item I still possess is my Big Big Ruston..............
Good idea, may I ask that there is a section to see which ones work and which don't to get a rough idea of how many were faulty? Also I was thinking of making a blog about merlin locos and spare parts etc so if anyone is interested in that and has any information please message me

Steam is highly under rated
No idea how it will be organised yet and I don't propose to go into the whys and wherefores of defunked locomotives. I can't see any point in going down that route. As something that has failed due to many years and miles of running, is not the same as something that was a nail right from the word go.
Initially I think if people want to post pics and details of currently owned locos on the forum I will take it from there if there is any interest.

I had considered this aspect. I don't think I should be a problem as we all post about our railways and locos anyway.
I don't see any need for any address locations or other information other than what older locos are still in existence.
Infact if a list exists on this forum, with possibly pictures of the engines then if something does go missing then the more people who know about it the better when the stolen items resurface.
The positive ID of stolen engines was clearly seen recently on this and other forums with the attempted ebay sales of several engines.

If at first you don't succeed, use a bigger hammer!

There are some words that make me cringe! ...'Heritage' is one of them. Trying to make something valuable when its not. Label a item with this word to make it collectable which in the case of live steam make item end up in a glass case. My one remaining old engine is my dear old Froig BBE i/c locomotive. Such a wonderful engine now converted to 7/8" scale purchased around 1987. A great purchase indeed!
