It is cooling down here now - which is a good thing for railway work as I prefer to do track work when it is in the 15C rather than when it is 25C!
The line is looking good. Watching other lines evolve encourages me to plod on with mine in spite of all the distractions.

Traffic Pattern? What pattern? Spuds out; grain in, but cattle, sheep and passengers are a lot less predictable.
Yes barle has djb draincocks fitted.
Happy to here my madness is inspiring others to keep going with their lines

So this stunning machine has been left by its owner for use on the barley pit line....
It's the electric version but I'm so happy it's here and I get to have a play while I build the steam version!

And so another year has passed, the railway has continued to evolve and is growing into something both friends and family are able to enjoy.
Plans for 2015:
Well if I'm being honest I don't quite know what direction to head in. I would like to add some more buildings to the line, and the seating inside the loop to the end of the garden is going to require some work. It may be time for the smaller return loop by the patio to have the ground work replaced in blockwork as the timber is beginning to look a little worn and starting to bow. I've been in talks Aston want scenic items I could add, engine shed, coaling stage, water tower, line side huts, warehouse/ domestic house fronts to the back of the chairs, build a quarry? Many possibilities but for now I think the line needs to be used a little more. The barley pit loco and carriage works have serious plans and so maybe 2015 will be the year of less track and ground work and more engineering to ensure good consistent service to the line.
I would've interested to know what you guys think I should add to the line and any comments of criticism would highly welcome aswell!
Anyone wishing to visit is most welcome, please feel free to drop me a message and we can arrange a date.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you all from Matt, Jodi and the kids from the barley pit railway

Hi matt, i look forward to seeing what the carriage and wagon works produce, maybe more progress on the L and B engine i presume? as for the layout i think to be honest you've got a decent length of running time already but one thing that i find quite interesting on garden railways is a quarry, not sure how you could add that on a raised track bed though anyway just a thing that i quite like but i look forward to seeing the progress made next year and the new buildings
Happy new year
Joe

Steam is highly under rated
The l&b chassis has been completed and run on air. The boiler parts are beginning to come together now so 2015 should be the year the loco is completed. The carriage works will have the l&b carriages completed and a second rake of them should be added. There is a rake of open wagons that await completion. Once the l&b loco is completed there will be a batch of quarry hunslets started.

As I said on Joe's thread, your line has always interested me. You got it up and running in next to no time but there is nothing 'rushed' looking in it's appearance. It fit's very nicely into the garden in a way many raised layouts don't.
I must have missed a couple of your posts in the summer as I missed seeing that monster of a six wheeled wagon of yours. I hope you don't mind me saying it looks like a minecar on steroids! (That's a compliment where I come from ).
Just a thought on Joe's quarry idea. It could always be below track level with a siding down into it. That might fit in nicely with some of the forthcoming redevelopments. It's an idea I may well be employing on the Soar Valley. Some of the Slate quarries in Swithland Woods were well below the level the railway would have run at had it been built.
What's your minimum radius after your recent redevelopments? Your line fits nicely in the garden without taking it over, some lines compromise on radius to achieve this but yours seems to fit nicely into the space without looking cramped.
All the best,
Andrew

"Smith! Why do you only come to work four days a week?
"'cause I can't manage on three gaffer!"

LEDs tom. Wiring done using copper tape across the top of the sides.
Now considering fitting lights in the other 2 completed carriages as well.

That is an outstanding model. You have hit the magic three ingredients, quality of construction, accuracy of detail, and the tough one - capturing the essence of the subject. It's surprising how often you see, for example, superb lining on a body that isn't straight - or the reverse. You have definitely got it all covered here. The lights even show that the quality of the interior is great too.
Thanks. Been told I need to enter it into MoTY so expect to see it at pboro...
