Tom Rolt Chuffer

Post by ptlrcecil » Sat Jul 12, 2014 7:43 pm

Hello All

I friend of mine is asking me to fit a Summerlands to his Tom Rolt. I cant really remember but was there some stories flying about some time ago about the chuffers not working as they should with Tom Rolts?

I have a Tom Rolt and really took time fitting it. It is very quiet unless I have a heavy load on so in a way it is one of the few locos that it might not be worth the bother. I put music on this video as you could not hear the loco with 3 trucks on. The problem is the pipe is very short because of smoke box and chimney size.

Rather than fueling rumours I would suggest you contact Chris Bird directly.

He is ridiculously helpful and would not release a product with issues.

It does work but not as well as longer size ones and only works well under load. I have an Accucraft Ragleth which is much loader even on a small load. I have a Roundhouse Charles which is very load. I have fitted several chuff pipes on Mamods and these are similar to Tom Rolts. They are quiet unless under load but I'd say Tom is a tad quieter still. The fitment is tricky so do read the instructions and perhaps telephone, be accurate. Hope this helps but does not cast a shadow on what is a great company with a great product.
