light house well iv been thinking bulding one would be fun to build and give my railway a bit of the southwold type look does anyone have any sergesions on how to make the light bit on the light house flash or project a becon of light iv been thinking of borrowing a road side flishing light

It would look nicer if you had a little motor driving a rotating reflector around a stationary light. It shouldn't be too hard to rig up something like that instead of a flasher.

Maplins might have a kit of parts that will do the job for you. I worked with electrics up to 1979 so my detailed knowledge is a bit out of date.

I´ve got two light houses on the line, both have current interrupters to turn the light on and off, and that works for me. Now, if you want to be really clever, then you can find a way of making it revolve. See the Youtube video below.

Some of the cheap beacon lights on ebay have a revolving mechanism...

With a little tinkering you could add a second reflector and have a fully working light house mechanism

Or alternatively log on to one of the many model boat forums, search for and read the articles and grab a simple circuit or two that will do the job easily and realistically and will operate outdoors in a harsh environment without problems. Incidentally any small low geared motor will do the job if a revolving head is needed - the types used for our warship revolving radar heads spring to mind. Action Electronics (among others) supply these.

try Timpdon electronics the had a model at the sixteen mil show that looked like a revolving police light but were not moving hope this helps
