SAR 15F loco

Post by ge_rik » Thu May 27, 2021 2:26 pm

My weekly walking companion, Clive, was born and raised at a railway station in South Africa where his dad was station master. Until now, Clive has been building exquisite models of tanks from plastic kits but during Covid he decided to revisit his childhood and design and build a model of one of the SAR locos he most admired. So he bought a Creality 3D printer and a set of engineering drawings for a SAR 15F loco and set about reproducing all the component parts in the drawing and assembling them. Here's the result (in 1:32 scale). It's a static model but ........

And here are some of the parts he produced

I'm hoping I can persuade him to tackle a SAR Garratt next ...... :D

With that much detail, its a real shame it is just a static model.
