Thanks Philip. It's a Hella 1:24 scale kit, and extremely fragile! If you look at it wrong the wheels fall off

Hmmmm, I wonder? Back in about 1952/3/4-ish I was given a plastic kit for a Fergie ( without knowing it was anything other than 'just a tractor', of course) for Christmas. My dad built it for me and the front wheels kept falling off, no matter how many times he glued them back on. I've never known the origin of that kit and all I remember is that it was quite big - although I was very small back then of course, but now I'm wondering.

On no! I contrived to get a couple of those as a Festive Gift, to do much the same thing. Most difficult kit I’ve ever made I think — whatever you do, don’t drop any bits on the carpet.

I’m very impressed with the chains, I’ve spent ages looking for appropriate brown string. And you haven’t painted it orange. Very nicely done.

That far back in the dark ages, your model would have been an Airfix one, which was their first kit. Got a vague idea it came into existence as a promotional model and as well as the kit, it was available assembled at one time.

An early example would have been moulded in cellulose acetate, same as the early Tri-ang model trains. Awful stuff, needed a special glue to stick it. The Airfix Fergie was to a nominal scale of 1:20 apparently, the much newer and a lot more accurate/detailed Heller kit is 1:24. Sorry about the thread drift. You'll find more details on Airfix collecting websites.......

Colourful shunter, with short train (still incomplete; posed in scruffy garden on a very cold day).

Wow! What a stunning bunch of photos this month. It's going to be really difficult to choose between them.
