It's going to be tough to choose a favourite this time!

To be fair, it always is! Just shows the excellence of the railways, photography and imagination of the membeship.Soar Valley Light wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2020 8:35 pm It's going to be tough to choose a favourite this time!

It would be nice if more members participated though.

Re: MARCH 2020 Quarterly Photo Gallery Entries
I absolutely agreed Philip, even if I am being a bit hypocritical in saying so! I feel a little bit embarrased that I haven't 'supported the cause'. The trouble is I've not run anything in well over 18 months now and done no work on the outside railway in around the same time period. In all that time the only thing I've managed is to build up another turnout indoors. I will try to find a suitable picture for one of the quarterly competions. Please keep up the good work of managing them, they are a great feature of this Forum.philipy wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2020 6:43 amTo be fair, it always is! Re: MARCH 2020 Quarterly Photo Gallery Entries
You are right Philip, there are some brilliant railways out there and the imagination of the members are outstanding. BUT, some members may not what to contribute for one reason or other. I for one have not done so yet and I am sorry I haven't, but the standard of the photos are so very high and I feel as other members I am thinking, are a bit intimidated, maybe that's not the word I am looking for, I haven't got a working line yet and when I did have, it wasn't anywhere near ready for photos that would grace this forum. Ok I have some that members have liked, but none that are worthy of showing...philipy wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2020 6:43 amTo be fair, it always is! I do remember now, I have contributed with a photo of my "Patricia Anne" on our first line...

A few words about this competition. Hopefully some snow will come before mid-March. Thus, there is also the possibility of some nice winter pictures from the garden

Re: MARCH 2020 Quarterly Photo Gallery Entries
You may be right Rod, but we did discuss this very point before resurrecting the old competition in this "Gallery" form, which was an attempt to remove the "elletist competition" element. If we were getting loads of entries each quarter it might be worth considering a rule that disallowed winners from re-entering for the next 2 or three times but with the limited number of entries we get currently, that would jolly soon mean we had no entries at all!
I just have a nasty feeling that this lack of entries simply ties in with the "internet forums are a thing of the past" thread.
However we are getting off-topic, this is the Gallery Entries thread.

philipy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2020 8:12 amPhilipy will know that I have some difficulty with using the forum sometimes. Taking this into account, i also find it a little confusing to find the latest photograph competition pages as all the previous photography pages are still there to add to any age related confusion. If I have difficulty finding the page when I know it exists, then passing potential customers are unlikely to find them. Is there a way of linking the important latest competition pages a bit higher up out of the way of the old stuff. Perhaps this might make the 'important latest competition pages' difficult to avoid rather than difficult to find.
This is NOT a complaint.
Thanks Philipy for all you do.

Have you activated the notification tab in your account setting Andy. That way you will receive either emails or when you log in or refresh the site you will see any notifications to any thread you have commented on.
You are so right about Philipy by the way, he does an excellent job on here.

Re: MARCH 2020 Quarterly Photo Gallery Entries
Yes I've done that but I sometimes just want to recheck what I've already seen. Also, I don't think when people vote that this generates a notification. I may be wrong of course. My suggestion was to try and make it simpler for those who haven't submitted a photo to find and have a look at the submitted images. Thanks for your help.

Re: MARCH 2020 Quarterly Photo Gallery Entries
Andy( and others) I have a similar issue and I've asked Tom about it. It's odd because he sent me a screenshot which shows the thread orientated in reverse to the way mine comes up. i.e his has the current entry thread at the top of the list not the bottom. He suggested using the 'orientation' symbol at the bottom of the thread
We had a discussion about something similar a while ago and I think there is something in your account settings which allows the reverse to be permanent ( but universal).
Now, I appreciate your points and concerns but if anyone wants to take this discussion further, please start a new thread - this one is for entering the the Gallery and should contain nothing more than pictures and the occasional " thats nice" comment.

It is an user setting, if I changed it for everyone (not easily done) I would no doubt get complaints.
As Phil has said, do not discuss this further in this thread please.
Re: MARCH 2020 Quarterly Photo Gallery Entries
Here in south east England snow has been a bit thin on the ground (sorry !) in recent years.
We might not get any at all, which suits me fine, so, for the sake of entering something, I've done the best I can with the reality of winter on my line. It might look like summer but the temperature was only 2 or 3 degrees above freezing when I took this !

Sweet isn't she. My first loco, bought new in 1983. It spent many years getting dusty on the shelf in the shed when I lost interest a bit. Recently had a strip down and a new coat of paint. Come the spring I must have a look for that big bottle of meths. If I haven't drunk it all . . . .

Really enjoying the winter photo's I'm one of those who loves snow - I'm so jealous of Newfoundland and their snowmageddon last week! Sadly proper winters seem to be few and far between in England lately.
Here's my entry for this quarter's competition -

Re: MARCH 2020 Quarterly Photo Gallery Entries -1 MONTH TO GO
Just a reminder, one month left to enter for this quarter, if you haven't already done so.
Remember, there is nothing to say that a winter photo MUST include snow!
