Micron RC - Deltang Rx replacement MR603a

Two of my six Txs are OK. Fortunately, one of the Txs is a Tx22, so I can bind the new Rxs to three of its channels.
I've contacted Andy to find out about the best option for the four non compatible Txs

I built my Tx22 from a kit which I got direct from Mr Deltang in, I think, 2015, so I'm guessing it won't work with these new rx from Micron.

You could be OK..

V2.06 firmware was released in June 2014..
Obviously, it depends how much stock both DT, and anyone building Transmitters had, at the time.

RC Trains only:
I expect this to possibly affect the RCT-Tx10 and RCT-Tx20 only. - I built these with a version of the Tx2 with vertical pins (my early models) these were 'the older-style' boards. It is difficult to know the revision of the code in these.

Andy has offered to send my affected Tx2s to DT for firmware updates. If it's not possible, he's offered to replace them at cost - which should give me a bit of a reduction.

Most of my Txs are pre-2014. I was an early adopter of Deltang equipment and so, whilst it meant I was able to develop knowledge and skills with the equipment, it does mean that my Txs are 'old stock'

If your RC Trains transmitter, has a numbered sticker (located in the battery compartment) I do not believe it will be affected.

Older stickers have a gold ground, the newer ones are silver.


I acquired a gold-sticker RCT-Tx10, with a loco, the other day. - This means it is quite early, and it does exhibit the fault.
Of course, it will be fine with the loco I acquired it with.

Anyone with a RC Trains transmitter that exhibits this behaviour, get in touch, at the usual email address.

Phil a silver "hologram" sticker with "Warranty" on it, that is what is in mine. Having looked at my Micron Tx, I have not noticed any identification

As stated, you should be OK.

I started adding the stickers, as it gives me an idea of when the transmitter was manufactured.

I am led to believe, the faulty code, was only loaded to a few months of 'production'. So it depends if DT mass-loaded modules, and how many 'we' bought from him during that period.

This will affect any 'make' of Deltang-based transmitter of this vintage.
So Spoerer, Chuffed2Bits, RCS-RC, and others.

I have contacted Andy (Micron) and he has given me this information:

There have been reports of transmitters with pre v207 firmware failing to bind. These would be at least 6 years old. The solution is to have the firmware reloaded which I can arrange.

I'm a bit late to the party here, but it's great to see the new Rx'es are finally available. I think we owe Andy a debt of gratitude for all the work involved in continuing the Deltang system. Personally I need about a dozen receivers for all the projects in my cupboards - and to have a couple of spares. Too many other expenses at the moment though..

Given the popularity of Deltang, and the massive proliferation of cheaper loco kits over the last few years, I'd wager Andy will be inundated with orders for quite some time!

Anyone wishing to use two-wire bi-colour LEDs, connected BETWEEN Pins 1&2:

You will require a firmware update (to v1.1) if you have a first-batch MR603a.

I have a number of MR603a, which I will get updated with the new firmware.

NOTE:
This does NOT affect ordinary LEDs, connected between receiver pins and battery.
It is only this one specific instance, of connecting bi-colour LEDs between Pins 1&2.

I have read most of the information in this thread and understand little or none of it! However, I have picked up on one interesting post which seems to apply in my case..... I have been given a brand new Micron DSM2/DSMX receiver and installed it in a loco which previously had a Deltang Rx65 unit fitted, so I know the wiring is correct! However, the Micron unit will not bind with my RC Trains RCT-Tx22 transmitter. Is this due to the age of the Tx, which is one of the first made by Rik when he set up RC Trains?
The Micron Rx will flash slowly at first (on the face of the board) then a brighter, more persistent, flash (on the reverse of the board) takes over and the unit will not bind. Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

I'm no expert, but it sounds to me as though you may have one of the early ones which now need their firmware updating. No doubt Rik or Phil P will be able to advise with more authority.

Yes, it's the most likely scenario. Either buy a new TX or if you are good with soldering, buy a new TX2 board (which I think are £20 ish) and just replace the board.

Thanks Steve, sounds like a plan! I can do some soldering, but I wouldn't have the fine skill required to mess about with electronics, I can foresee the whole thing melting in my hands. I would certainly be grateful if someone could do this for me please.
I presume the rest of my Rx units would still function as before????

As Steve says, the Tx2 board inside the Tx22 will be old stock. I had to replace four of the Tx2 boards in my six transmitters. They are £20 plus postage from micron - http://www.micronradiocontrol.co.uk/tx_ ... tml#dt_tx2

As Steve says, it's a simple swap, like for like, but does require some soldering. I can do that for you if you like.

Thanks guys, I have now contacted Phil P. and he has agreed to do the necessary upgrade to the Tx and ensure the two items are enjoying conversations together!
It seems that not all MR603a's get along with the Tx22 and they might need to be formally introduced.
