Ballast enquiry

Hello folks ive just laid my track down on boarding in my garden. Its peco flexi oo gauge track to run 0-16.5 locos etc and am looking for a ballast thats suitable for all weather conditions, Can anybody help or point me in the right direction of where i may obtain some please?

The facts that you're on boards and 0;16.5 outdoors rules me out from giving an experienced viewpoint, but, I'd be tempted to try a "Rowlands Mix" (2 sand, 2 peat, 1 cement).

If you've got a spare length of track and piece of boarding, give it a try and see what it looks like - the "weak" mix makes reclaiming and re-using trackwork a doddle.

thanks, is that the mix ive heard eventually grows moss etc?

Personally, I wouldn't bother with ballast. OK indoors, but outside I think you would be asking for trouble. Why not put the track onto roofing felt? Quick, easy and reasonably realistic.
Lead me not into temptation,for I can find my own way.
