My guess is "signal box back"
tom_tom_go wrote: Fri Feb 28, 2020 8:26 pm The planking looks great.
It sure does..... 👍

Thanks chaps, much appreciated!

Peter, prosaic as it sounds, I'm afraid Rik's correctly identified the writing on the wall - "signal box back". I'm very impressed you could read it from the photo Rik, I had to check on the real thing!

Glad you like the planking effect too - although, since scouring the internet for lever frame pictures I've discovered that in most signal boxes it seems to be vertical!

I won't get much done this weekend, but progress will slow now anyway as I await better weather for painting...

Cheers,

Andrew.

The lever frame's done now - it took a while! I think it's maybe a little large, but not to worry - I just want to create the right general impression through the window...

Andrew.
And WOW, you've certainly done that. It looks fantastic Andrew. I don't think the frame is too large at all, its perfectly proportioned to the signal box in my view. well done on a fantastic piece of work.

All the best,

Andrew

Hello!

Nothing much to report on the signal box (apart from a door knob - hold the front page!), but I've used various leftover bits and bobs to create this little shed:

Hut 1.jpg

Not sure what it's for or where it will go, but it's rather fun, as my Grandma would have said. It was designed to use the roof of the bird feeder I mentioned a page or two ago, but I forgot to take the thickness of the cladding into account, so it didn't fit. Luckily I had some slate effect roofing left over from the 'box, so I used that instead. The hut has now joined the filling and painting queue - the weather's slowly improving I think, shouldn't be too long now...

Cheers,

Andrew.

That looks just right as a typical garden shed and will be a great addition to your railway, no matter where it ends up. All of these little things add to the overall effect of creating your personal miniature world.
The best things in life are free.... so why am I doing this?

Good morning!

With warmer weather approaching I'm looking forward to running trains semi-regularly, but first I'd like to get the area around the tunnel sorted out - it's currently a complete mess, and it's where the signal box will end up, so both projects are kind of linked.

As reported here, I created the basic shape of the tunnel mouth a while ago, but it hasn't fared well out in the elements. The stone cladding has come unstuck, peeled off and then curled up. I think the problem is that the glue dries really quickly, so it's hard to get enough on a large area. With that in mind I flattened out the old embossed sheet as best I could using boiling water to soften it, then cut it into smaller pieces that are easier to glue.

I did the same on the other wall, which has remained un-clad until now:

That's all glued on now, and the gaps filled, so I'm tidying up and adding a little detail with the Dremel now, then hope to start on the painting...

Cheers,

Andrew.

Looks really good! A neat idea for gluing a large area. Consider it pinched...... ;)

Evening all,

I finished the paint job on the tunnel mouth this afternoon, so it's now back out in the garden awaiting a little landscaping and planting to soften things a little:

On the whole I'm pleased with how it's turned out. Ideally I'd have had a bit more space to work with, the constraints of the site having restricted what I could do design-wise, but I managed to squeeze in some NWNGR features, and when the area's all planted up it should just become part of the landscape...

Cheers all,

Andrew.

Hello!

With this weekend's warmer weather I got the spray cans out and got stuck into painting the signal box and shed:

Signalbox 17.jpg

Lots of work still to do, but I like getting to this stage, when the spray painting's done and the rest can be tackled in stages, with a brush.

The 'box roof's not on properly yet - I had to do a bit of a redesign, and it's quite a tight fit, so although it's still removable I don't want to put it on or take it off too often.

Cheers,

Andrew.
