The wagon is now finished, painted, detailed and load permanently attached.....
Moving on to the next project already......
The crate has WD markings and 'this way up' arrows on its side and is tied down in neat and tidy regimental style.....Moving on to the next project already......

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
As I said previously, I have already started another project. I have been searching for a basic loco to bash into something which my friend can use to pull his new coaches. He isn't able to do it himself so asked me.
On Saturday morning my e-bay purchase arrived just as we were leaving the house so I didn't see what I had bought until late that evening. It was a pleasant surprise...... Soon I had worked out how to make it look more to 16mm scale, so on Sunday morning a trip to the workshop removed most of the 'not wanted on journey' material.... ...which left me with this.... The new cab is much larger than the original and is built around a battery pack as the loco will be RC using a Deltang controller. It's quite a chunky loco so will look OK hauling couple of coaches.

That looks like it will have an appealing presence on a track.

This will be an interesting one to watch. I have a soft spot for diesel 'critters.

Traffic Pattern? What pattern? Spuds out; grain in, but cattle, sheep and passengers are a lot less predictable.

If Peter works at his usual speed, and it looks as though he is, it wil definitely be a case of 'don't blink or you'll miss it'!

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Excellent! I do like those Faller locos - I've got one in my bits'n'bobs box which I might do something with at some point. At one point I had it wired up with some cheap RC from a toy car as I recall - I think it ended up dying in a fug of frying electricals smoke! Yours is looking great, I really like the new cab and running plate, looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
Cheers,
Andrew.

Just as an aside to the shell topic; Harecroft (www.harecroft.co.uk) and SLR Models (https://slrmodels.co.uk/) both sell 15 inch Howitzer shells and the smaller, more common, 9.2 inch shells.

Sorry about that Rod.... you need to be quick!
I have no knowledge or experience of these models but if another one becomes available it is well worth buying.

Blimey, you don't hang about, Peter. Already looking like a lovely little ng diesel. Be interested to see how it develops.

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Thanks again for your kind words, always good to hear your views.
A little more progress this afternoon, the various sections are now secured together after much thought going into the positioning of the on-off-on switch and the charging socket. I wanted to be able to remove the body from the chassis containing all of the control gear, however, it can't be done without fitting the switch underneath, and that would be too difficult for Brian to manage when in use, so it will be on the cab side facing the rear. To enable the two sections to be completely separated for maintenance purposes I will fit a three core plug and socket in line to the switch.
The build is now complete with horn on the roof, handrail knobs to the doors, detail inside the cab, buffer beams and buffers etc..... As I write this I am waiting for the first primer coat to dry and will put another on before I retire to bed, which won't be for quite a while yet!
Tomorrow a top coat of paint, but I haven't decided on the colour yet.

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
I'm really quit pleased with the way the primer has done its job, the loco looks well balanced even with the enhanced cab dimensions.....
Having searched my workshop for available paint colours I have found one suitable and sprayed the body. It is currently drying and I will be able to show the result later. The best things in life are free.... so why am I doing this?
Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Just out of interest, Peter. Did you drill the circular windows, use a circle cutter or file them? They look flawless.

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Rod has also queried this and I was about to answer... yes, they are drilled using my floor mounted drill press and spade drills, the kind with a central spike to keep them from wandering and a flat cutter with sharp edges. These are available in a variety of sizes and cut plasticard with great accuracy.
There is no chance I could achieve such a perfect circle any other way.
