Time to build a railway...but where?
Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Very good, I look forwards to seeing them in the flesh so to speak.
I agree with Rik about sending pics to the manufacturer.

I must admit that it took me ages to work out what CRV stood for ...... company reserve vehicle, cargo respite van, carriage resuscitation vehicle....... it was only when I looked at the website I figured out it was more mundane and descriptive than that ......

Another thing which impressed me about this company is the fact that it was not just another sale to them, they were interested in what happened to their product and asked in advance for pictures of the finished item..... I have sent some today!

I wondered too Grant, somehow the theory that the roof was designed to allow the guard to poke his head safely above the roof-line doesn't sound plausible without the rest of the coaches having a similar profile. Perhaps I should build a 'what if' rake to go with it?

The whole train's looking wonderful, it'll be a delight to see that trundling round the garden. I love the CRV (I'm tempted, but I'm almost put off 'cos I'll need to paint mine in plain green to suit my line and time period...) and the little bug box is great. I'm so impressed with how quickly you've made it - I made one a few years ago, my first scratchbuild, and it took me months!
All the best,
Andrew.

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
As mentioned above, I have two Lineside Hut coach kits to build for a friend but have been delayed by a series of serious nosebleeds. Altogether about 30 in two weeks requiring three A&E visits, one 999 ambulance call-out, treatment and admission to hospital. Hopefully on the mend now but very worrying at the time.
Meanwhile, when not actually bleeding, I have managed to work on the coaches, and here is the progress so far.....
Open carriage..... Three comp. and guard..... I am still impressed with these kits and will certainly be back for more.

Peter, sorrry to hear of your woes, it sounds most unpleasant in every way. Glad you are on the mend now.
Those coaches look magnificent, I'm particularly taken by the Open.

Excellent work on the coaches Peter, but more importantly I hope you are now fit and well, or at the very least on the road to recovery.

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Those coaches do look marvellous, Peter. Not only the quality of the kits which should take the credit, though.
Hope you're over the trauma of your recent medical emergencies.

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
Thank you all, I'm really grateful for your kind messages, feeling much better now!
The coaches have had their first test run today and performed exceptionally well. As supplied, they have Roundhouse bogies and wheels, which add weight low down. With the undoubted quality of the product they do their job admirably....... Only door handles to finish and my my friend can have his coaches back!

They look great.
I agree with you about the weight low down being a help to smooth running, especially with bogie vehicles. The first bogie coach I build had plastic bogie frames and plastic wheels, bunny-hopped off the track every chance it got, and disgraced itself by rolling over on sharp curves a time or two. Simply changing over to steel wheels and axles, and gluing some weights underneath made an enormous difference.

Traffic Pattern? What pattern? Spuds out; grain in, but cattle, sheep and passengers are a lot less predictable.
Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
They are good looking coaches Peter....Will have a good look on the site and check them out.

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
I recently purchased two pairs of Swift Sixteen WW1 bogies from a friend who has more projects than time, however, I had no chassis to go with them so looked in one of my favourite books for inspiration....
I do have some military railway stock so decided to add my collection of preserved items on my heritage railway. The more obscure, the better!
Having got stuck into this build I forgot to take other pictures of the process so jump straight to the finished item....
The illustration at the top of the page is the only reference I have so dimensions etc. are a bit freelance. Also, the box extensions at either end of the wagon have no explanation of their purpose, if anyone has any idea what they were for I would love to know, as someone is bound to ask me!The best things in life are free.... so why am I doing this?
