Guess who? ;) A nice shot of my train.

You have a very nice and inspiring railway. I look forward to the next steam-up.

The Silver Lady with the air-pump belongs to railway-friend that tricked me into livesteam and the fantastic world of 16mm NG on 32mm track. :D
He also showed me how to put accessories to the engines - without beeing afraid of drilling holes in these expensive things ... ;)

December 2013

A new engine arrived at the PHrY before Christmas - a Roundhouse Little John.

Image
I think it looks too nice and glossy now, but I will try to make some weathering to it.

Image
Here is Little John with a rake of gravelwagons.

The last wagon will have a brakeplatform for the brakeman. It is actually not a platform - it's more a seat hanging on the rear end of the wagon.
The wagon came this day out of the paintshop. I think the painter must have had a bad day. ;)

Excellent, thats exactly the sort of thing that I want to do to the one I've just bought. How easy would it be to distort the LGB plastic?

I painted the green LGB-plastic with a rust color. I covered the rustspots with a chipping-fluid (you may use AK Interactive or a hairspray),
and then painted the wagon with the grey top color.
After making scratches on the surface, I paint some ruststreaks with rust color and white spirit.

January 2014

Winter is here with snow and 4 minus C. Then it's time for a winter-steam-up. Due to the cold weather Victoria was made ready indoors.
Here are some pics from the session. Enjoy it ... :)

'Victoria' is beautiful in black with the red lining and the snow scenes are magnificent.
It is still +3C here but very wet and not suited to outdoor running....well I won't be doing it anyway!

Lovely photos! Thanks for the weathering tips too, those wagons further up the thread look great...

Just rain and more rain here - if I tried to run a train I think I'd sink into the lawn...

Andrew.

We are having one of our weird winter warm spells. It has been pushing +15C the last few days. Thankfully the ground is bone dry or we would have the spring bulbs trying to come up! I am taking advantage of the good weather to re-route a difficult section of track.

Thanks. I'll hope spring appears in some time - when temperature raises over freezing and the sun helps melting away that ice and snow. :)
Anyway - this is the challenge about garden railways here in Norway. :D
And it helps making nice pics to this thread ...

I am glad that you post pictures fairly often. I rather like your line. It seems to get a lot of things right. It also has just enough Norwegian character to be different.

The weather here can be a challenge. I am currently wondering what the heck happened to our winter. We had a cold snap in November, a light snow fall - just enough to keep people out of church, not Walmart - then nothing! My inner Scot is going "we'll pay for this!"

March 2014

My RH Little John and some of my LGB gravel wagons have been in the paintshop last days. And here is the result of the weathering of the engine and the gravel wagons.

Image

Image

And here is the way I did it.

First a thinn coat of matt varnish, then a wash of black and rust colors mixed with white spirit.
The rusty chimney and the footstep are drybrushed with burnt sienna powder color. Inside the cab a woodenplank floor.
The roof is first painted in different rust colors, then a layer of chipping fluid, and a topcoat of silver acrylic paint.
When the acrylic was dry, the roof was dampened with water and scratches made to look like rust spots.
Then some ruststeaks and some soot from the chimney.
Finally the little beast was given a matt varnish to seal the weathering.

Those gravel wagons were also weathered in the same way as the roof of the engine:
First painted in different rust colors, then a layer of chipping fluid, and a topcoat of grey acrylic paint. When the acrylic was dry,
the wagons were dampened with water and scratches made to look like rust spots.
Finally ruststreaks and a topcoat with matt varnish to seal the weathering.

Very nice finish on your stock, weathering just right, and the driver seems to agree by the smile on his face!

I agree with Peter, and the loco looks MUCH better now that when it was shiny green!

My Little John is back from a sound conversion done by Locoworks.

Here is a video. Listen, look and enjoy it ... :D
(Please ignore the shaking video - it was difficult to operate both camera and r/c-transmitter at same time)

Here is a new wagon for the PHRy - a Roundhouse "Three Plank Coal Wagon".

Heavy weathering:
The wood is stained with acrylic paint mixed with isopropanol. The brass was painted with rust colors and powder.
I also did change to IP Engineering 20mm wheels instead of those plastic wheels who came with the kit.

This wagon will probably end up on a siding filled up with scrap and junk.

Like it! Suitably, and realistically grotty. Good job there, sir!
