WINTER IN MY GARDEN

December 15. 2012

The winter and snow is here, and my RH Billy had to go for a ride on the PHRy (Pine Hill Railway) today.
Here are some pics from the event this morning.

I absolutely love the pictures.  Thank you, they cheered me up no end, as I had just had to abandon any thought of pushing on further with my track relay today as I am under snow myself. Hopefully it will clear here by Monday.

Traffic Pattern? What pattern? Spuds out; grain in, but cattle, sheep and passengers are a lot less predictable.

Beautiful :) Very inspiring :) :) Thank you for sharing.
And here are some technical questions: Do you have any problem with ice freezing on the top of the rail and blocking the points aswell? What kind of gass do you use in winter driving?

Top of the rails: No problem. After driving over the tracks a few times the ice is gone.
Points: Must check and clean guard rails and point rails before driving - but not a big problem.
Gas: I use pure butane. Engine and gas stored inside. I'm using hot water and have steamup outside.
Actually no problems with the engine, but the the rolling stock where having some icelumps on their wheeels.
Maybe it si a good idea to put the wagons outside in the cold to acheive the same temperature as the rails,
before the driving-session.

A new engine will soon arrive at the PHRy. A RH Silver Lady with red lining.
Here are some pics of her.

That looks nice. You must be excited. Also, I just watched your winter video, I hadn't noticed it there before.

What is the lowest temperature you've run your locomotive at, Kjell?

Thanks for the greetings!

The Silver Lady will have some more details; chopper-couplings, change some cheese-head screws to hex-head bolts, real coal-lumps in the coal-bins, a chuffer, and of course nameplates.

In some way I think of this engine as a female - there are more things on the engine to handle at same time ;) and she is a beauty. :D
Her brother is a RH Billy called "ALF". Maybe the "Lady" should have a nordic name of a kind? What do members of the forum suggest?

The temperature was about 10 degrees below freezing. I did not actually have any problems with the gas flow or burner.

"Nordsjöld".

I don't know what it means, I just went to an island with that name in the Arctic ocean and liked the sound of the word. Norwegians named many things in Canada.

I think "ALVA" would be a nice female name matching "ALF".
