Glad you are happy with it Rod, don't forget to keep that gas down
I did offer to remove the spring in the Tx, however, it's very easy to do so have a go!

Thanks Rik. It's been a bit of full on 18 months that's for sure...She could have gone on for longer, but like I said my finger was getting tired. I still need to drive her with some caution, which is a good thing I think. Don't think I would get has much enjoyment with just switching her on and letting her run. Even battery run locos need to be driven don't they.....
It's been a long time Peter has you know.... Even Anne said she sounds a lot better....Peter Butler wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2019 10:52 am Congratulations Rod, it is certainly good to see her running smoothly, it sounded just like that for me so it must have been the fall which dislodged the chuffer.
28 minutes run is a long time which I couldn't manage so Tom is a miracle worker.
I think 28 minutes could have turned out a little bit longer if I turned the gas down even more, but I was just happy to see her running again, has she was when I got her from you....
Thanks...
Thanks Tony....TonyW wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2019 4:34 pmAn aching of the finger caused by a historical limitation that no longer applies.
If you're happy with that, well that's fine. If not, move the reverser servo plug to the channel that uses right up and down, remove the spring in the transmitter and fit a ratchet strip (copy the one used on the left stick). Not only does this give a more meaningful use of the stick (the reversing lever on a full-size loco goes front to back, not side to side) it allows finger-free operation.
Thanks Don and welcome. It's nice to know that members like what I do. Though I may make mistakes, I always find that the members on here are a very friendly and helpful lot, who helped and encouraged me in lots of ways.DonW wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2019 9:23 pm Its is a nice little line making the most use of the space and the limitation of not owning the place. You would have been alright with the reversing out as far as railways go. The reversing out would have been done at a slow speed for a short distance before proceeding mormally. The pushing of a train from the rear for any distance has to have a driver up front so he can see the line is clear to go at any speed. However you are right about the Grandkids, over doing the throttle going to the end and the loco takes a dive. Best to be safe.
Controls can be funny my Taliesin has one of those gun types, it is designed for a right hander really being left handed I end up moving it from hand to hand. Turned the throttle the wrong way and being a bit of a greyhoud it lept off the track where it went behind the back of a shed on a friends layout. I ought to change it.

Has for the spring, I may give it a go, but things like inners on electrical items to me are frighting...
But I guess, nothing ventured, nothing gained.....

Re: NEW FWLR LINE (UpDATE)
It's been a long time since I have posted anything on my thread ..I am very sorry for not doing so, but there reason being as many of you know, things have not been to great. I am not going to bore you with details, but to cut a long story short, I needed another operation on my heart. I am still recovering from it. I am at home now, I have been for 3 weeks I think, this memory hasn't improved with the op... The reason was I had the operation is, I was getting pains in my chest with the constant going up and down the stairs and I was finding it hard to breath also. Anne was also struggling with her breathing too, she has Bronchiectasis and it's frighting watching her coughing and struggling to breath. So a decision was made by Anne and myself for us to move. I was in hospital for some weeks before my operation, so it was left to Anne to find us a new place to live, which she did. We rent has most of the members know, so it was a case of finding a place and giving our notice.
The thing was our line had to be lifted again.. . Anne and one of my Son-in-laws did it while I was in hospital and now it's back to how it was when we moved in, well almost. Anne had to re-seed the areas where the boards had been.
This is how it looks now. Anne took this photo for me.
Since Anne took that photo the bare patches have already started to recover. And the pond is also gone. You will see it in the next photos, along with the bridge looking like it's been blown over..
We have now moved again, with Anne doing all the organising of the move. She did a absolutely brilliant job of looking after me while I am recovering and moving us. She did all the packing up, even taking great care of my scratch build Crane, some of you will know it.
This is our new garden, it does have some scope, but there are a few places where the water with all the rain we have had over the country, is a bit like a mini lake, so that will need to be looked at.
Couple of photos Anne again took of the new garden.
Nothing will be done in or on the garden until next year, or until the son-in-law is able to get over and do some work in it. He will also be doing most of the relaying of the line, I have had my orders from Anne, no lifting to be done at all.......
While I am here, I want to say a very very big THANK YOU to Peter Butler. His emails to and from Anne has been so helpful, not only to me, but mainly to Anne. At times she was needing someone apart from the family to talk to and Peter was there when she sent an email to him.
Thanks again Peter.
And also to the members who were sending well wishes to Anne about me...Thank You.

Re: NEW FWLR LINE
Hello Rod,
Glad to hear you're on the mend - Anne's a miracle worker!
Sorry that the old railway's had to go, but I guess the modular construction means that you (well, your son-in-law!) should be able to re-erect it without too much trouble? The new garden looks like it has a lot of potential - lawn and flowerbeds to form an attractive background, but plenty of hard standing to make for good operating conditions.
Good luck with everything,
Andrew.

Re: NEW FWLR LINE
Thank you Rod for the compliments, I was most concerned throughout your illness and look forward to seeing you back in the garden next year.
It looks like a garden with potential for your line, nothing too grand, just a circuit and sidings would be sufficient, and easy to maintain... always an issue. You have time to plan and design during the dark winter months and be prepared when you are able to begin again.

I'm sorry to hear you haven't been well, even more sorry the line has had to come back up. I know your pain in that respect.
Looking forward to seeing what magic you can pull out of your hat with this new garden.

Looking forward to the new line. Seems you have a keeper there with Anne.
Re: NEW FWLR LINE
Very glad to hear you are back on the mend. It is only after you have lived in a true bungalow for a while that you realise how many times you are going up and down stairs usually when you visit family with a house and you are n longer used to it!
Anne sounds a real tresure. Best wished to you both and I look forward to seeing photos of the new line in due course no rushing to get it done though.

Re: NEW FWLR LINE
Well it's been sometime since I posted on my thread. Not much has been done really, except for Anne getting started on her Fairy Garden and the son-in-law getting some flagging done before he had to go back to his full time job has a cycling tour guide abroad.
Some photos of the flagging.
Son-in-Law starting the laying of the flags.
This is after those storms we had...
The last photo shows how far the water got to after the rains stopped, it reached the back of the house.
It stopped him from doing anymore and he had to go and do his main job.
He did manage to lay some more before the COVID-19 virus happened and stopped him again...

That's VERY impressive Rod, your son-in-law's done a fine job!
I'm very glad my father-in-law doesn't have similar expectations, he'd be sorely disappointed!
All the best,
Andrew.

Re: NEW FWLR LINE
Great work there Rod, he has done a good job and you must be delighted. The water level is just a bit alarming though, especially near the house, let's hope it doesn't happen again as it was exceptional this year.

Re: NEW FWLR LINE
Thanks for the kind replies. When I next speak to the son-in-law I will give him your very kind comments.
I did notice that the channel my son-in-law ground out of the other original flags in the patio near the bungalow/house, has now resolved the flooding problem vastly. Although we do get some standing water, it's by no means like the mini lake we used to have....
I can't remember if I posted the raised bed, so this is what has been done with the help of Anne..

Re: NEW FWLR LINE
I have also built something for the line when we are able to get some track laid.
Anne wanted something to put some flowers to grow over the line. I said "What about some sort of tunnel......
So I made this out of Wilf's Chair.
This is it
Don't have a clue on what to grow over it, but it needs to be an evergreen....Anne thought of a clematis, but I think it would be a bit too big. But as we aren't gardeners,

Re: NEW FWLR LINE
Been sometime since the line has progressed, even if it is just a little. Anne's Fairy Garden as come on a treat and when the planting gets done and start to grow, hopefully it will be even better.
Has it is now, with a lot more done.
Some partial track laying has been done, it is only laid to see how it looks. It may not be its final position, you know how things work when laying a new line.
The heat over the last few days has stopped work it got to 38degrees in our garden, far far too hot so it's a bit of stop and start now. I did have a little accident while I was putting some trellis up for Anne. I stepped off the raised bed backwards and well you know me, it was painful. Lots of bruising to my left elbow and hip, with some pain also in my shoulder
These may be x-rated....
Elbow...
Hip...
The bruising over the next few days got worse with my arm almost covered, has was my hip, it went all the way down one side of my leg and across the back. I am not going to show any photos of them, because they really are bad....
Still it's something that won't happen again, once bitten twice shy, has they say.
I did get to do a little project with some Foamboard. Thank you Andrew for you info and help, I decided not to use that glue you told me about because the smell of it would not have been very good for Anne, so I used outdoor wood glue, I know it's foamboard not wood, it did the trick although I had to put some brown tape on it, that stuff that sticks let the preferable, to hold it while it went off.
Here it is in place. The 1st photos is of the bush, it is approximately 5 feet wide.
I am hoping to get both ends of the tunnel finished with entrance's and then put some greenery on top of it, or just let the bush grow over. First though is to work out what to use for putting stone work on the foamboard to try and get it to look something like Andrew's....Luckily I have a bit of it so experimential is going to be the order of the day, with scrapping quite a few boards....

Re: NEW FWLR LINE
That looks good so far, Rod.
Somehow I missed your previous post in April, but as I read down the thread I was thinking you need Lonicera Nitida, then when I got as far as your pictures, I see that's what you've got!
I have a 4ft long tunnel done in exactly the same way as yours. For the liner, I used one of those black planting troughs that are about 6" square x 4ft long, and cut both ends off.
The Lonicera grows quite quickly in the spring but then slows down, mine generally needs a hair cut twice or three times a year. Don't let it get too high/wide because it gets very leggy and you end up with bare stalks at the bottom.
My tunnel mouths are done exactly as you suggest, with scribed stonework on foamboard.

Well done Rod, and Anne! Despite your accident you have made good progress and the garden looks really tidy. With the area for the railway defined it will be pleasure from now on.

Re: NEW FWLR LINE
Thanks Phillip. Didn't know the name of the bush, it does grow fairly fast has you say. The only problem I can see with the tunnel however, is the blackbirds mostly that visit the bush destroying the tunnel inside of it. Still it won't be such much of a problem, the board is easy enough to take out and do repairs...

Yes, without Anne I don't think I could have got this far. The son-in-law got to do a little bit more with the flagging, then ran out of sand. I suggested he went to Southport beach.. The builders supply he uses, will only let you in if you have booked a slot and he wasn't able to get anymore, so now we will have to wait until he can get another slot. he also got me some more scaffolding boards, but after weather proofing them the heat we had one those last few days have warped them badly, not sure if they are inferior boards or what. The old used boards haven't warped anywhere near like the new boards...
The bed however does now look more recognisable to an area that will hopefully turn out well. I am planing on do a little bit of shunting on it..That's the plan.

This is the track plan we are thinking of doing.
This is with a slight adjustment to the line on the top left track.
It's either going to be a line to Anne's Slate Mine or to another project I am in the process of building....
