One thing that certainly impresses me with your railway is the nice neat edges between the trackbed and the grass. If that was in my garden the blackbirds would have thrown half of the ballast onto the grass in their search for food and the cat would have dislodged the remainder as he used it as a litter tray, you must spend an awful lot of time in maintaining the pristine look!

Put it on here George for everyone to see.

Thanks for the link. It is very easy to put it on yourself though, Just click the video box and move in-between the two video boxes that comes up and then paste the video. It then will show the video without going onto Youtube.

Nice loco and rolling stock by the way.

Thank you Pandsrowe, I am pleased you appreciate how much effort goes into maintaining a line with loose ballast. Unfortunately, a neighbours cat uses the railway as a litter tray . However, as the railway progresses, more areas of ballast will be covered up which should help. I am thinking of securing the ballast down with tile adhesive as well.

A bit of progress yesterday, I have finally got round to making the platform at St Kew Highway. It is made of concrete and reflects many narrow gauge lines as it is only level with the top of the sleepers. There will be a water tower, lamp hut, station building, benches etc on it once I get round to building them. I have also posted some pictures of Trethevan halt crossing as this was started a few weeks ago. There is still a lot of work to do though including actually building the halt!

I'm really enjoying these updates, thanks for posting them. I really like your "back to basics" light railway approach to platforms etc, I much prefer it when our little railways don't get too "mainline"...

Cheers,

Andrew.

Hi all,

I have been busy over the weekend with the railway. On the Saturday I re painted some secondhand stock to the appropriate livery of my railway (humbrol 64) and pressed them into service with a steam up on Sunday Morning. In the afternoon I finished making St Kew platform and the level crossing at Trethevan halt. I have also made the Platform for Trethevan halt. The milk churn wagon is my first attempt at scratch building and was inspired by GeRik's version. tomorrow I will upload some photos of the crossing and platform.

The rolling stock is looking good. I think having a unifying livery is a good way of getting a range of different wagons to look good together. Congratulations on your first scratchbuild - it looks really good. Glad I was able to help encourage you to have a go.

Great looking railway, btw.

Hi all,

Thank you for your comments. I may have confused some of you as I haven't built any of these wagons over the weekend-I have only painted them  . I have had these wagons sat on a shelf for a few months waiting to be bought into service. Moving on, here are some photos of the halt. The roller is a wilesco model much modified by myself. The crossing was inspired by Belaugh Green road crossing on the Bure Valley Railway. There are also some photos of St Kew platform with a lamp hut constructed of ply and baked bean tins. It is based off the one Pendle valley make. The hut was made a few months ago but the platform was completed last weekend.

I do like the low level concrete platforms, and the small scale of the halt. Fence, bench, and something to stop at is all you need for a halt! Nameboard for non locals will be handy in due course.

Keep up the good work!

Traffic Pattern? What pattern? Spuds out; grain in, but cattle, sheep and passengers are a lot less predictable.

I like the look of the concrete mix. Have you included some budgie grit to get that finish?

It is a mix of sharp sand and cement in the ratio 4:1. There is no budgie grit in it - the sharp sand used has some grit in it already. The sand is Kelkay build mate sharp sand and was picked up at my local garden centre.

Thanks. Must see what sort of sand they have at our local garden centre. I usually buy a bulk bag of builders' sand which is fairly uniform an uninteresting when mixed with cement.

I agree the halt is looking good. I do have a soft spot for halts in general.

Rik, I always get sharp sand in 20(?)Kg bags from Wickes, B&Q, etc. I should think you'd get it from your builders merchants as well.

Hi all,

I have reached a dilemma over coach livery  . I picked up some unfinished IP engineering roundhouse coaches second hand and I am currently painting them in WDLR livery. I know what colours to use but I don't know what pattern to use. I have been experimenting with the coach colours and would like your opinions and suggestions to help me. There are some photos of 2 coaches and some of my other coaches. The new coaches don't have to match my existing ones as they won't be in the same train due to the size difference. I have lettered the liveries to make referencing them easier. The livery is green lower half and a white upper half but they could be painted all green if it suites

This livery matches the talyllyn coach but I think the green is too low and makes the coaches look out of proportion. (Livery B)

This is one of my original coaches. They would all of been painted this way if they would of had small panels above and below the windows that could of been painted white ( it looks wrong without)

The IP Roundhouse coaches are not the easiest to paint. I have two of them and had been looking out for more for ages to extend my rake. Mine are painted red and cream. I think I have posted pictures of them somewhere! If I can't find the location to post a link I'll take some pictures if interested.
