Interesting technique you have developed there, I quite like the look of it. I'm always on the the lookout for something different and one of my winter projects this year is a station building for my railway extension so this has given me some food for thought. Have you used this method before? I'm just wondering what the longevity will be like when used outside, I always bring my buildings inside for the winter but I do want something that will at least stand up to the vagaries of weather during the running season. I know that waterproof grouts are available but you did mention 'cheap' , hence my question.

Nice work Jim, the tiles are well worth the effort and look brilliant. To make it easier to create the quantity you need a sheet of 1mm black HIP can be marked into strips and scored enough to snap them off as you go.
I know from experience that HIP works well outdoors, waterproof tile cement (for swimming pools) will stand up to wet conditions too, even better when mixed with SBR.

Thanks for the tip Peter I will get some black next time I do a roof.the reason I used cheap tile grount/ adhesive . I used a small pot at home for a small job in my kitchen. I left the pot in my shed and it set like concrete so iv used the same stuff again it goes off very quick.this building will now spend it's life outside so we will see how it holds up .

I really like the HQ building, especially the roof, which looks fantastic. I've just purchased some pre-moulded plastic roofing for my signal box, but wonder now whether I should've taken your approach... Anyway, it's completely different design, but it reminded me of the old Wantage Tramway HQ which still stands in the High Street there;

Very impressed with how the lighthouse is progressing, looking great so far...

All the best,

Andrew.

The lighthouse build does look a bit complicated, but it certainly looks great so far.

Quite a complex structure Jim, and will turn out to be a monster! What will the overall height be, and will you need to notify Air Traffic Control?

:shock: That's a huge structure. I presume it will be living outside permanently? According to my poor maths that's about 85 scale feet?
