Great work Dwayne - I especially like where you include bridges where you naturally need them- often in the garden we have to manufacture a reason to pop in a bridge - yours meet a need based on the lay of the land and as a result look so natural and 'right'

As Kevin says, the new line is an interesting shape. It's certainly providing some good views of the line. It looks like another very nice line. Once the earthworks loose the 'raw edge' it's going to look like it's been there for years. The new track construction method sounds very durable, looking forward to seeing more.

Thanks gents. I've got about half the track in place thus far. Trying to get it completed within the next couple of weeks before higher temps and tornados arrive...

Trying to get the track all laid before WW3 breaks out and shuts down my plans and play.

I've been assembling a few feet each evening this week. Completed the west loop where Maggie is located and have now begun on the final loop where Hope is located.

I've also decided to add a short logging branch line which veers off the main near Hope. Having to snake the track around a couple of yucca plants to make it work. The temporary fence that keeps the two namesake pooches off the layout will eventually be taken down when everything fills out with plant cover.

I love the fact that you adapt and add as you go, it makes for some very interesting bits of construction and some really attractive railway.

I was hoping to get more track down today but my native Canada sent a blast of frigid air my way so outdoor activity was curtailed.

I know what you mean, Easter Monday and it’s lashing it down here and cold with it….

It's very organic the way your builds come together Dwayne. You mould the landscape into what you want when most of us use man made materials to create our lines.

Two weeks later and I've managed to get track laid from the trestle to the town of Hope...



... and then few more feet to the wye switch where the a spur to the right leads to the Yucca logging district.


The left side of the wye is now about 18 feet from the end of the line that curves around the head end of Squirrel Valley. I'm hoping to complete the track construction for this segment by next weekend to complete the mainline.

It looks like it's been there for years Dwayne.

Tom's right, it looks really settled. Fantastic progress and some very nicely engineered earthworks. Good luck with the next big push at the weekend.

Coming along great Dwayne, looks like it will evolve to an even better line then the last one.

Thanks guys. I managed another six feet Thursday evening. Down to a 12 foot gap between the two ends. Weather went south last night and we're getting much needed rainfall which is postponing progress.

Looking really good, Dwayne. I like your natural earthworks - they do make the line look like part of the landscape.

The weather cleared today after a cold, drizzly Saturday (we needed the rain badly to reduce our ongoing drought) and warmed enough to get back at it and finally construct and install the last 12 feet of track. A stiff belt of my favorite whiskey (Fireball) was consumed in lieu of a golden spike. The logging spur is all that remains to be constructed. No hurry on this track as it isn't essential for operations being an afterthought addition.

Looking very impressive Dwayne…the Mountain or is it a Hill…lol, will look brilliant when you have it planted or are you going to be utilising it for something else.

Lovely alignment Dwayne, it looks great. Geometrical poetry in fact!

Rod, the hill is barely a hill at the moment. It will be built up a bit more so that once the periwinkle fills in it will have a fuller appearance.

Andrew, thanks. I try to keep the track lines flowing smoothly which is a benefit of hand laying.
