Great looking start! Nothing like a piece of newly laid trackbed to get the creative urges flowing!

Many thanks for all the positive comments folks they're much appreciated.

Your YouTube videos have been quite an inspiration for me Rik so if I end up with a layout half as good I will be well chuffed. ;)

Is this under the same management as the Chycknell Valley Light Railway? If so, can't wait to see what you have in store...

I certainly enjoy making them. Good to hear that my dabblings have helped to entice others into this fascinating hobby. Be interested to see your trains in action sometime soon?

Sorry for the delay in replying, I've been a bit busy....not adding to the layout unfortunately. Just waiting for a pallet of concrete blocks to be delivered to support the non ground level track bed planks and then construction will start in earnest.

I've been railway modelling for years actually Rik, in 'N' gauge dare I say, but YouTube finally convinced me to go bigger and move outside. ;)

Looks like a fairly sheltered spot there.... I presume this is your front garden so many local neighbours and passers-by will be bemused by the project.

It is the front garden and pretty sheltered so should be ok. There are only a few houses in the village so not many neighbours walk past and, more importantly, as I'm in a cul de sac off another cul de sac off a lane off another lane 3 miles from a main road, not many strangers either.

Gee! do you have trouble finding your way home at night!
As Peter said, it does look a nice sheltered spot, rather idyllic. Looking forward to where you go with this.
Grant.

What a lovely space to build a railway.

Thank you.

Once the shrubbery I pruned grows back it should hopefully blend in nicely. Then, when time, finances and the boss allow, I can take over the other side of the path too. ;)

All level, nice big curves, nice one.

Thanks Grant, but don't let your eyes deceive you. There is a 1 in 50 gradient down either side from the house to the curve at the bottom as I like to hear the locos work for a living. It does level out before and around the curve though.

Great looking location and an interesting trackbed. Will follow with interest.

Thanks Rik. I would have preferred it at ground level but with a garden that slopes every which way it wasn't really possible.

I don't know what age you are now, but as the years pass I'm sure you'll be grateful you didn't go ground level.

A very good point. I'm not quite at that stage yet but age affects us all eventually.
