Merlins Castle Line

Post by Just Julie » Fri Nov 17, 2017 6:06 pm

Hello all,

Well where do I start? My name is Julie and I live in West Wales nr Carmarthen. I am married to Dennis
I have always wanted to have a little model village in the garden, so last year I started to collect some houses that I saw with Cain Howley. Then Dennis helped to build some more buildings. :) But then I met Peter Butler and my whole way of thinking then changed to "I would love to have a garden railway to around my model houses".

Where was this all going to be in the garden changed over many times. Dennis said omg what are you doing, make your mind up. But being me, after deciding where the village and track are going to go, Guess What I changed my mind again and thought I need a shed first so my trains have a home.
After a lot of thought I have now ordered a shed 18 x12. Being delivered first week in December.

Got to work fast now, footings have to go down. So I ordered 2ton of Ballast and 12 bags cement. Digging done, levels done, today the mixer came out and all the products got used. Phew hard work but the foundation is now done. Next is the blockwork, Hopefully next week weather permitting as it rains a lot in Wales and a deadline with the arrival of the shed. I will put photo's up next time of how things progress.
Well all for now. Julie.
Oh forgot to say that when the railway is up and running it will be called the Merlins Castle Line, and my shed is going to be called Julie's Den.

Welcome aboard Julie, plenty of help and advice on here but with Grand Master Butler on hand you might not need it!

Adding photos is easy and we like photos....

Welcome Julie, this is the place to be to share your experiences and receive all the advice and support you could ever need.
We all have to start somewhere but always remember it is your railway and should be made to serve your needs. There are no rules and no critics to prevent you doing what you want.
We do love pictures and this is the best time to share them right from the start.

Hello Julie and welcome.

Blimey, that's some shed so I dare say it's some garden too. I'm really looking forward to seeing some pictures. Enjoy the forum, it's a real joy to have somewhere like this to share experiences and to offer and gather advice.

Welcome from down here too Julie, yes that Butler fellow has a lot to answer for, thankfully! If Peter got you into this, you got the best start possible. Good luck with it all, I too can't wait for pictures.
Grant.

Again, I am clearly missing a trick here with the other half helping or even doing all the railway work!

Love the space you have there to play...

Feeling sort of responsible for getting Julie and Dennis involved in this venture I went along to offer assistance to prepare the site for the shed installation, only to discover they had achieved the task themselves with little outside support.... I was truly amazed at the rapid progress made since my last visit. No doubt Julie is determined to succeed and our recently formed 16mm West Wales Local Area Group will do all we can to assist.
The site is inspiring with magnificent views across the valley.
Julie has already made structures for the railway which I hope she will share with us.... please.
