This is fine decomposed granite, it packs down hard just by walking on it and so often used for walking trails here. It will provide a stable bed for the concrete track bed, but we will scrape it out where we need some depth for the garden soil.

Had to get another 1/2 cubic meter of decomposed graniteto finish and give a bed for the form work/ boxing. Later it will be caved out and the plan is a shallow valley and heavily forested area in the corner.

Captain Plod just had to lay some track down to get an idea of what is planned.
The far end will continue on behind the back of the shelter awning to a separate steaming bay area to remove congestion in the narrow walkway, but that is a project for next year.
No work will be done this weekend as Plod is off to Gympie to be let loose driving at the Mary Valley Rattler.

Just watched that on the most scenic railway journeys which followed the Queenslander (or whatever it's now called)

It was a mixed Saturday for Captain Plod's labours at the "Potters Orchid Railway" due to rain, so he was in the Red Room which is currently cramped due to timber/ply track stuff storage and carriage kits and all the other projects. (including the coal fired steamer build which awaits more test steamings) Sunday, clear skies so it was a full day making up the yard boxing. Another day needed to finish and level it all out. Some Peco was laid about to check all was lining up to his satisfaction.

Somehow you have made laying track a bit of an art form. I love all the shuttering and the spacers. Lots of room left for MAM to plant too. :thumbright:

Thanks. As I have mentioned before, we want low maintenance and smooth non wobble running. Due to busy weekends camping, Rattler shifts it will be 2-3 weeks before the concrete goes in. Yet to level it all up and fit the galv reinforcing rods etc. This will be done incrementally each evening before dark. Just before the sun drops the low light for 60-90 minutes makes seeing the LASER much easier.

Captain Plod is back at the POR extension project, leveling and adjusting and fiddling the boxing. Next is to fit the galv rod that ties it all together. The pour is planned for the 3rd September if the weather is good.

No small amount of fiddling, but your results so far speak for themselves.

1/4 Galv Rod is in place and wired to the cross drain tubes.

The light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation device is marvelous.

Keeping the bubble between the lines is good enough for Captain Plod

28 x 20 kg bags or ready mix, hand mixed in the barrow by Captain Plod. He tried the neighbour's cement mixer, it was cheap rubbish and it was rubbish to use and much more work than it was worth, so hand mixing was easier and gave MAM time to trowel in each 40kg load. That is 560kg of concrete. MAM said, "driveways have less concrete" She was right. I could have used 25 mm less depth. When I am dead some person will be tearing this up and will be cursing and wondering what the fark is this all about ! Maybe I will get laugh out of that in the afterlife

Captain Plod prepares.
Image

Set to go
Image

The GM and Chair of the board will give assistance.
Image

The sun comes out, we wanted clouds, which we got for most of the day.
Image

It was about now that the Chair of the board of directors said "driveways have less concrete"
Captain Plod replied with "it will be handy if we need to use it as a runway for landing A380s"

It will never move, heave, sag , dip and some sod will have to jack hammer it all out one day when we are are all ashes.
Image

Clean up time.
Image

Done for now.

Mr Specture calls in to check over the new extenion

Post by Hydrostatic Dazza » Sun Sep 04, 2022 9:36 pm

"Good grief, not you again!"
Wash the dirt off the back of your ear, will you !

Image

"Ah, errr, please leave me in piece, go away or I will write a prohibition notice on this railway"

"I believe I am at the right address, I am not sure if this is a railway track bed or airport taxiways and runway for use by Airbus A380s. Excess volumes of concrete have been used, it seems to be far above what is required. However levels seem to be within tolerance. If this is the POR extension I can see no problems at this stage."

Image

Mr Specture was then seen going off to get changed so he could meet the lasses at the pub.....

Mr Spectre seems to be better qualified as an inspector of pubs rather than of railways.
