Re: North East Victoria Railway
Well its been a few years but the railway is still going! Since I last posted I've been converting most of the stock to Deltang RC and also started the extension.
An in progress TGR V class (very similar to a BR 04 class drewery) this is the prototype with the photo taken right before this one also fell off a high place and broke in two! Porter #8 runs a minerals train. The ruling gradient of 1:30 can clearly be seen here behind the train. its quite steep but was necessary to get the elevation drop needed. The beginning of construction. the bridges are built from recycled plastic tomato stakes with Jarrah deck planking screwed in on top. in time im hoping i can grow some english box and other plants underneath to hide some of the uglyness
Garbage photo but at least you can clearly see the elevation drop. Ive been trying to put in a photo of my favourite place which is right behind the loop over the whole extension but the forum isnt playing ball. If you'd like to see a better write up on the extension check my blog out
Regards
Jake
The railways first engine #14 has been extensively rebuilt with low running boards, a new 10th anniversary chassies and a good repaint to make it somewhat more Australian still needs handrails refitted and some bugs worked out in its electronics.
The lines new boxcab D1. a lovely model with probably the most tractive effort of anything ive seen in the scale besides an LGB M car. Needs some more work this photo was taken on an ex workshops test run after it lost RC signal and ran off the end of the high bridge breaking both bogie mounts, buffer beams and most windows out of it!An in progress TGR V class (very similar to a BR 04 class drewery) this is the prototype with the photo taken right before this one also fell off a high place and broke in two! Re: North East Victoria Railway
Hi Jake, very impressive line, although it would frighted the life out of me running any trains over your line. I am not going to say anything about the lack of something to protect your stock, I will leave that for others to put their penny’s worth in.
Love your locos however, real shame that the TGV R class fell off and broke in two, it looked a terrific loco. Your’e rolling stock looks brilliant too.
I have looked on your’e Blog, it tell’s a great story of your build, those curves look so realistic.
Can you do a video by any chance.
Keep up your’e excellent job on the line…I want to see more please.

Welcome back Jake!
When you lost RC signal how far away from the loco was the Tx? You can set Deltang up to stop if you lose signal.

You've been busy. Good stuff......Tropic Blunder wrote: ↑Sat Sep 29, 2018 2:08 am The railways first engine #14 has been extensively rebuilt with low running boards, a new 10th anniversary chassies and a good repaint to make it somewhat more Australian still needs handrails refitted and some bugs worked out in its electronics.
Have you considered painting the smokebox on #14 black? Bright silver wasn't common on Aust. railways and the model has some resemblance to one of the ex WAGR C class used on the Banksiadale timber line.
There's a colour photo of Black Butt running late in it's life in a Wikepedia article here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WAGR_C_class
That's an interesting model, what's it's origin? I thought at first it was a GRS kit, but there are body differences. There's a boxcab diesel somewhere on my bucket list, hence the interest.Tropic Blunder wrote: ↑Sat Sep 29, 2018 2:08 am The lines new boxcab D1. a lovely model with probably the most tractive effort of anything ive seen in the scale besides an LGB M car.

Re: North East Victoria Railway
Thanks FWLR, Although it looks scary there hasnt been any issues trains do tend to tiptoe their way around though! The V is extremely rough as its just a mockup for a future kit, 15 minutes and some epoxy and it was as good as new again.
I was a few meters away but its not the radios fault, i was testing it and left the removable bridge out so ill chalk that one sqarely down to operator stupidity.
Heres an awful phone video of the line from today ill have a few more up soon https://youtu.be/M-wn9ECwP3Y
Thanks Greame, in a few weeks hopefully ill have some legitimate Australian 3 foot 6 steam trundling around but until then ill have to stick with the MM, I was thinking about doing that bash originally but the proportions bothered me. #14 will get a Graphite grey smokebox same as an NA eventually. The boxcab was originally a GRS body kit that i got off evilbay in the UK, I've moved the pilots off the bogies back to the body and done a coupler conversion. its got two USA trains NW2 motorblocks under it and is by far the most powerful engine I own.
Over the weekend I finished the extension the yard has been modified again since these photos were taken but its all progress. The baldwin steam tram is owned by my friend Alexander who rather handily lives around the corner and is happy to come and test my rather rough track laying.

Re: North East Victoria Railway
Hi Jake, I have tried to post one of your photos from flicker and it is a lot of faffing about.
Do you have a PC/Laptop or tablet with the photos on them. If you do it is really straight forward to post them onto the forum, by clicking the Attachments box at the bottom next to Options. Click on Add Files and then go to your Photos and click on unto 20 photos, then just click on the (place inline) box and you will have posted them on to the forum.
Hope this helps mate.
This is your photo I added to my Flicker Gallery, then added it to Photos on my Laptop.

Thanks FWLR, I have actually attached all the other photos in the thread that way but the website keeps telling me my files are too large any time i try to upload one of the wider more interesting pics so i may have to persist.
You were right about the darker smokebox, much better!

Re: North East Victoria Railway
What a fantastic railway, love the rolling stock - that box cab's particularly nice.
The curves and gradients look fearsome, but very impressive. There are corners of my head which look like your garden, the corners that are brought into play when I take a look at someone else's garden and think "if this were my garden how would I get a railway from down here to up there..." I imagine the train crews will sleep a little easier when the box grows up to break their fall in the event of a derailment...
Cheers,
Andrew.

Neat work with the paint.......Tropic Blunder wrote: ↑Mon Oct 01, 2018 12:57 pm You were right about the darker smokebox, much better!
I also prefer the dark grey smokebox. I suspect it comes down to what we are used to seeing.
Bright silver never looks right to me and it was the first thing to disappear on my Shay, when I reworked it into a more Aust. style.

Re: North East Victoria Railway
Hi all I'm looking for some advice on peco track. After using brass 332 rail for years I've happened across a quantity of Peco code 250 track. I'm wondering how you all do corners? do you use a rail bender? I've bent the track to the curves I want and it looks great but as i fettle it it always returns back to being straight again! I know some people screw theirs down to boards which I've done in the past too but I'm really trying to avoid burying any wood in the ground because of the rot that'll inevitably happen.
Cheers

Re: North East Victoria Railway
You have certainly been active on your line recently Jake, you have a nice long run now.
I use code 250 brass track, though mine is AMS. I find by over bending it with my knee (haven't used a rail bender at all) it stays that way. Mine is only fastened on the elevated section, but even there I can remove a section of track and it stays curved. Once the track weathers a bit it gets harder for the sleepers to slide and so allow any straightening.
Grant.

Re: North East Victoria Railway
thanks Grant, im trying to get everything ship shape before summer hits, hopefully argyle come through with another big package of rail joiners and i can start building the mine yard and triangle. Thats how i laid my AMS code 332 track and it worked perfectly, some people on gscale central suggested bending the rail on its own and then putting it in the sleeper sections which of course is a much smarter way of doing things so thats what ill try next.

Re: North East Victoria Railway
The Yellow terror has received a bit of an update being painted in the same green as #14. Jury is still out on this scheme definitely needs some more cleaning up and weathering.
Full yard showing all 4 four of the operational passenger cars in service #3 is only acting as a handbrake in this instance.
Being an apprentice diesel mechanic I have always wanted to bring a bit of work home and this AMT Catapillar D8H fit the bill perfectly, a bit of a complex kit but I'm quite enjoying it. This will serve double duty as a photographic prop on the mine site and also as a load on a very unique piece of Australian Narrow gauge rollingstock... watch this space

Re: North East Victoria Railway
All looking good, Jake, I like the way the line winds round on its way to the raised section.
I think the green looks better than the yellow, and I love the 'dozer.

I also love the CAT. Great use of the garden too. Agree with Phillip, I can just imagine the trains winding their way round.

Re: North East Victoria Railway
Bit of an update on the dozer, Still needs lift cylinders, drawbar and front grill/nose added on but after a coat of Caterpillar yellow primer its starting to look the way it should. Also in the works is the test model for my TGR VA class diesel mechanical. This ones for my grandfather (he built the same loco in 7 1/4) Its all 3d printed like my other Australian models. I'm hoping to have the first running example finished by Christmas
