Just getting back into the swing of posting on here. I havent been able to go down to the heritage railway so there has been some work happening on the railway. I've been waiting on a shipment of corflute to start constructing buildings so I've been working on rollingstock instead. here are some pics from the last few weeks.

E1 enjoying its first run in quite a while. This might be the only time a photo of it even appears in the wharf area as this area wont be getting overhead/

The train parked up at the top of the line showing the selection of Australian rollingstock that we've been cultivating for the last few months. I think we're up to about 15 pieces of Australian Narrow gauge rollingstock now which is more then enough to run an operating session. A disposal program from the LGB stock I bought that was "near enough" will be starting soon!

I continued running until late into the night. The line that runs around the water tank to the workshop will come off that track to the far left stretching into the darkness...

Another new project that I've recently completed to running point is this Emu Bay Railway C wagon. They use Binnie wheels and ill hopefully be selling them and their Meat van variant for around the $35 AUD mark. Ill be making a post about that later.

Sitting on the quickly hacked chassies it still needs some more cleaning up and more detail but theres potential there. Ill also be selling these slightly lengthened so they just drop onto the chassies instead of having to chop them down in length slightly.

Last ones a teaser of sorts. Fyansford #6 a 1903 Hudswell Clarke...

Thanks Grant its going to be the go coming into Summer i think will be good to shunt trains with a cold beverage in hand, just need to improve the lighting down there.

the ol block of Hebel certainly gets a workout  it'd be nice to have a dedicated spray booth but rattle cans and mother nature is all the line can afford

I've achieved almost nothing physical the last few months but theres definitely been a fair chunk of CAD work completed especially after seeing some of the fantastic models that have been coming out of this forum.

Fyansford D1 (EMD Standard G8 Built to haul limestone at a local cement works) is coming along. I'm on Mk.3 of the side frames and I think there'll be a Mk.4 before the next one is completed. They'll be powered by Piko 218 motor blocks with Deltang Rx65's for control. Im really hoping to figure out a sound card I can use on battery power that'll give me authentic 8 cylinder EMD 567 sounds with notching up but we'll see.

Now that I've got the Barclay to the point where its usable as my big steam power I decided to start on my first large Australian locomotive. I had plans to start with the Silverton A class but theres some engineering difficulties I have to remedy first so the M class it was. For our English friends you have repatriated M10 (M2 originally) at the Tanfield railway. Ive never really understood why given its 3' 6" gauge but there you go!

I talked about doing this on another forum but I have a particular affinity for the TGR X classes being the first mainline diesels in Australia. Ive spent a bit of time in the cab of these now as train crew and a little bit of time working on them and this is the embryo of X20, X3 will come later!

Wow, that was quite an update!

It's all very impressive (I DO like that 4-wheeled brake van...) BUT that big diesel is just phenomenal, what a beast! Incredible detail too - it must have taken about a week to print?!!

Thanks for the update - I look forward to seeing the stock in action out on the layout...

Andrew.

Lots of interesting rolling stock there. Particularly impressed with X class diesel.
I like the idea of the aluminium container flats too.

Thanks gents! Its very generous and humbling given the incredible work you all do.

I certainly don't include as much detail as I'd like but I'm very conscious of large holes in the roster that prevent me from running full running sessions with all Australian stock so I've definitely made a choice to only model the stuff that will provide a good foundation for detailing later. Its a pain and I have to do more work long term but its worth it. When I finished the first lot of Australian wagons off I towed them around with the DH and just watched them going around and around for a few hours, I never really believed I'd make it this far!

The DE is 58cm long so shes definitely on the larger size but not as long as some 1:29 scale diesels I think. The second one is half assembled on the table now I'm hoping to have both assembled and in running condition by the end of next month as we have a live steam meet and as I'm the only person who likes diesels I need to bring my A game!

Hi Mitch no plans for a H, Ive never been a big fan of the cabs on those locos.

The other "big" locos I have chassies/parts for are the; Silverton A, WAGR S, TGR Q, TGR CC, Fyansford #2 and Fyansford #3 (the ASG)

Years ago I made a big list of engines I was interested in that had commonly available wheel sizes and took advantage of having a bit of disposable income and Bachmanns dirt cheap pricing on their big haulers to acquire enough parts for the rest of my modelling career. Its something thats definitely been worthwhile for figuring out headshunts and minimum radius etc but once I use the stuff I have in stock that'll be it. Cant rush these things but its been quite therapeutic to start ticking locos off the list.

Thanks Aaron. Love your line, Buildings and infrastructure is something I've been putting off far too long but you've absolutely nailed the Queensland tramway look.

Being faced with a long weekend and some upcoming steamups I decided I'd put the foot down and start pushing some stuff out the door. Late this afternoon NEVR's DE5 made its first steps across the yard. Also running today was the Barclay on the weed train after the DH failed (forgot to charge the batteries!) the lines now serviceable again

The Melbourne suburban area is slowly starting to come back to life, including rail operations. The ESET diesel electric ventured out for the first time in a while to the North East Victoria Railway.

Image

The hiss of the porter's blower is drowned out by the whine of dynamic brakes as the ESET diesel electric slows down for a cross. Part of the goods is a new hydro electric turbine, destined for the mountains.

Image

For the tramway crew used to electric operation this is a different world, with big heavy trains and more power than we ever normally handle. Here is the first test run of the DH and DE in multiple unit. Despite their slightly different running gear they ran fine together.

Image

That is not all though, the first running prototype of another locomotive has recently emerged from the NEVR's workshops.

Image

It is of course an EMD G8, a locomotive that changed the nature of many rail operations forever.

Image

Running in multiple unit these two locomotives have a very impressive amount of power, even the longest train that could be assembled was easily managed on the 1:30 grade.

Image

The two locos shunt the train for the return trip.

Image

Back on the wharf at Hastings the little Malcom Moore diesel mechanical is assembling the next train of outwards traffic.

Image

The ESET DE couples to its assembled train for the return trip.

Image

Heading home the driver swings the throttle to notch 8 for the grade ahead.

Thanks for having me Jake!
