Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
Great to hear you're taking full advantage of the excellent weather at the moment Grant. Theres something very relaxing about just sitting and shunting.
Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
I love the sound of that, fantastic!LNR wrote: βWed Oct 14, 2020 7:29 am I've just spent two and a half days doing nothing but shunting trucks and Pass. stock around Leawarra yard. Two engines in steam, amazing how long gas and water last cut right back. Engines also look good just sitting in the sun with a wisp of steam at the safety. Only time an engine left the yard was when the Bagnall hauled all the stock back up to the shed last thing today.
Very enjoyable.

Sounds like an ideal 2.5 days to me ......LNR wrote: βWed Oct 14, 2020 7:29 am I've just spent two and a half days doing nothing but shunting trucks and Pass. stock around Leawarra yard. Looking forward to the day I can do just that, in a sugar mill yard setup. Sounds you had an absolutely marvelous time.

Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
There has been a scheduled shut down at Leawarra requiring full occupation of the yard, in order to carry out a redesigning of track and platform requirements.
The Civil Engineers have designed and built a new footbridge to allow for the track amendments. Track crews have removed track from the south end of the yard. Seems to be a lot of talking going on!! The Engineers dept. have drawn up plans. The new track layout incorporating the platform road on the main line, has been laid in along with a new platform. Much work still to do, platform fencing, re surfacing etc. some of which will have to wait until dryer weather. For now the track has been handed back to the Operating Dept.

Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
Looks good - as ever. Is your track hand-built, Grant? It looks very much in-scale.

Thanks Rik,
No the track is code 250 AMS track with very poor UV plastic. Much deterioration under Australian UV conditions, that's why there is shade cloth over Leawarra and things look a bit mottled!

Ah, yes. I see now looking more closely at the first photo. The last couple of shots along the track look really realistic. The lower profile (than normal G scale) of the rail and the wider sleepers work very effectively.

Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
Whatever the track-gang say would be OK by me,... I wouldn't stand in their way!
The best things in life are free.... so why am I doing this?
Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
Yes Peter,
I was nearly going to put a talk bubble on the two guys at the back,"do you think they're going to do any work or just talk about it.

They are a lovely set of pictures Grant, well up to your usual standard.

Thank you Philip, actually having trouble with my old camera. Still taking pictures, but having trouble downloading them to the computer. Seems you have to hold your mouth the right way or something!

Another brilliant update on your line Grant. I love the story and the photos are superb. I have missed looking at photos and hearing about your line.

Great photos! I particularly like the one of the gang consulting the plan...

Thanks Andrew, though I think he's ahead of his time fashion wise. With that shine on his pants I assume they're leather

PS he's normally reading a newspaper!

A photo posted by Jake (Tropic Blunder) has caused me to let the cat out of the bag.
The lumberjack driver has been in the boss's ear for some time, that loads and grades are getting too much for the engine. The engine has done many miles and breakdowns happen more often. He's concerned he may end up blocking the main line. Loads of sawn timber heading for Leawarra. I think the boss's heart over ruled his head when he happened across a fully equipped shay at a bargain price. Although sitting outside for some time, and with turbo generator, lights and a compressor(none of which are useable on the mill line!) Gray's Timber Products now has a three cylinder shay at it's disposal and an ex lumberjack driver with a grin to put a Cheshire cat to shame. Mill locos and stock running on LNR metals has been causing much discussion in higher circles and a possible relegation to Tramway status is on the cards.

Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
The only time my Cheshire cat grins is when there's food in the offing........
Are you still bringing the Shay to the GSSU next month? Let me know which day and we can do a parallel run.
Graeme
Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
Atmospheric photos as always, Grant. There's something captivating about watching a Shay's motion in action.
Our Cheshire Cat is wolfing down her breakfast at my feet as I type. I can't figure out how she manages to purr, eat and grin all at the same time.
