The Leawarra Nayook Railway
Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
The Sawmill has finally reached a point where I can see what I need to do for the mill yard, and what needs tidying up that I didn't notice whilst building but shows up in pictures.
First a general shot of the building and machinery. Looking along the Breaking Down saw carriage way.

Just such a fantastic build. You have built one heck of a sawmill Grant.
I have too say it's rivals Rik's by a short head...
Super photos too.

Unfortunately the post put itself on the forum before I'd finished it. So to carry on, a general view of the area for the yard.
Grant.
Two views of the interior, Rip Bench to the right of centre, Background.
Much still to do.Grant.

Superb construction and amazing detail.... but what messy workers!
The best things in life are free.... so why am I doing this?
Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
As atmospheric as are all your constructions, Grant. A lovely piece of work, well done.

Thanks for the kind replies folks they are appreciated.
Made up a stack of timber to be air dried in the yard, probably another two to go, there's a lot of sawdust in one of these. I worked out there would be
38.72 metres of oregon approx. 4x10mm in this one stack if I'd used real lengths of timber. Shall stain the ends black and grey the top a bit I think. Grant.

Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
Nicely done, yet again, Grant
Some and some perhaps? i.e one freshly cut stack and a couple that have been out a while?

Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
Yes Tom, if your referring to the stuff in the mill itself. The process equates to watching grass grow, a syringe, PVA glue, water and detergent, and a good aim. Similar to ballasting HO track only even more boring!. I've thrown loose handfulls under the benches and saws as there is a hollow under them which would be where the belting and shafting is. Ours were often in trenches dug under the floors.
Grant.

Some pics. from steaming today.
Raising steam at the shed. On the way to Warringine, bright sun makes for high contrast. Arrival at Nayook on time. A quick cuppa. Later this morning the logging loco runs empty log bogies for the mill. Coming up the grade on the mill tramway with a load of sawn timber. Grant.

Great set of pics, Grant. You have a knack of capturing atmosphere - the 'quick cuppa' shot is a fine example.

Couldn't agree more, wonderful pictures! The logging branch looks great, and the passenger rake is very smart. Dare we hope for some busy shots featuring branch and mainline trains meeting at the junction one day? Or would that require too many hand?!
Thanks for the inspiration,
Andrew.

Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
Excellent Grant, I will one day strip back my Silver Lady and try and paint her just like your locos look.
Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
Weirdly, it’s been the same here: black shadows and bleached out highlights, at least when I attempt to shoot stuff.
But your pictures look great, anyway.
