The Leawarra Nayook Railway
Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
Sounds familiar. Two days of rain and the moss seems to be looking greener here but a few dry days and it will start to look sad again.
Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
Great storytelling Grant through your pics and text!
Where did I put that uncoupler?
Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
It would be a great story to print in a book. Sort of "Thomas for adults"..
"En schöne Gruess" from an Alpine railway in Holland.
Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
The Leawarra Nayook Railway has been closed for some time, firstly because I've gone back to building another boat over winter, and secondly some may have noticed that a large Tea tree leans over the line just over the railway crossing out of Nayook. Because of the layout of the tree it has been gradually rotating to the point I could no longer open the door to my HO railway room. Something had to give.
Both easily fixed. I could mention that there was a slight seismic event when Pam tripped and fell on the General Store, but apart from moving the store on its foundations, nothing was broken (oh! and Pam was alright too!)
Grant.
As spring arrived, and a few high wind days threatened to bring the tree down on the railway shed, Pam and I have managed with ropes chainsaw and hand saw to bring it down in pieces under full control. There were only two minor casualties, one telegraph pole, and a vertical curve installed in one piece of track. Both easily fixed. Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
It's a shame that had to go Grant, but as you said, something had to give. I think you might miss the shade it provided though?

Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
I am starting to think I am missing a trick here with all your other halfs helping you with railway stuff.
Mine would rather it was all removed and sold so a pergola can be installed on the patio, no chance

Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
Your certainly right about the shade Phil, we let it go for as long as possible as I hate removing trees. Trouble is Tea Tree goes without warning, and it was big enough to have taken out most of the corner of the shed which would have brought the ceiling down on my HO layout.

Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
Hey Tom, a pergola requires legs right. and on legs you can bolt horizontals. Deck between and you've got more railway track space.
Just a thought. (ducking at the thought many kitchen items could head my way)

Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
I tried suggesting that, no dice.
So this HO layout you have not mentioned before, can we see some pictures of it please in a new thread?
Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
I can empathise with your reluctance, but if a plant is in the wrong place then it must be a weed, whatever its size.

Unfortunately very few photos of my HO layout (not enough for a thread). It's based on a north eastern town in Victoria called Wangaratta in 1967ish. It runs twice around the 24' x 14' shed and up the middle. Above pic is Wangaratta itself, large shunting and make up tracks up the middle which are off scene. Engine shed and turntable. The station served two branch lines and an industrial siding, so there was a lot of action going on.So this HO layout you have not mentioned before, can we see some pictures of it please in a new thread?

Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
Just finished reading your thread and WOW what a layout, some very very nice locos and buildings, love the way you photograph your line.
The shed for your HO line is something to be wanting.....a 24 x 14 area...if i was so lucky to have that i would be in heaven...lol.

Wow! Very impressive Grant. The atmosphere you've captured on your outside line is just as tangible on the inside!

Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
Lovely set up and nice idea of the open storage in the middle feeding up to the layout. On our little island space is a luxury. I'm with Rod, a 24x12 shed would be a dream come true!
Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
Thought I should boil some water to test the locos, with the GSSU just around the corner. Had to clear the track as nothing has run for a while.
Preparing two locos at the shed. A short train awaiting a loco at Leawarra A quick pause at Warringine. You guessed it, that curve again.

Some very nice photos of your trains, must say it does look like a UK garden layout.

Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway
Wonderful shots again Grant. Thanks for further inspiration. With winter approaching here and some track laying still to do I need as much of that as I can get!
Your trains fit so well into a landscape that is very much in proportion with them. I need to learn from that.
