Apropos of absolutely nothing, I thought some of you might be interested to know that it was my mum's 100th birthday yesterday.

She did indeed.
(Though these days you have to apply for it in advance)

I think that's why she's survived so long. She's almost always cheerful and really enjoys a good laugh.

My mum is a proud East End Londoner. She joined the fire service on the first day war was declared (at the age of 18) in the docklands area (as did my dad - where they met) - which, for obvious reasons, was a prime target for the Luftwaffe. You might get the impression that I am intensely proud of my mum.

Congratulations to your Mum. She looks happy and healthy. Long may it continue thus. My Mum is a mere whippersnapper at 91.

Happy Birthday to her! My father is only 91 and I really miss being able to visit. So...does she watch "East Enders"? I used to watch the show when it was on PBS over here.

She used to watch it, but I think the East End has changed a bit since she lived there in the 1920s and 30s.

Thanks Dave
There's exactly 30 years between my mum and me and between me and my daughter. Daughter was upset that she had broken the chain, but it wasn't to be.
