What did your pets have for Christmas?

Post by Peter Butler » Sat Dec 29, 2018 4:35 pm

Let's not forget, Christmas time is special for pets too.... they notice the changes to their household activities so should be included in the festive occasion.
Our dogs always get toys, some of which last for the whole day!
This year I found something which I thought might also include them in the celebration......

Hair of the dog indeed.

My dog got an assortment of treats including the turkey giblets which I have spent the last few days picking up in his toilet breaks!

Hi all my dog received a Christmas stocking with nibbled and treats. And a bowl of Christmas lunch without onions of course.

I don't have any pets, but a good friend of mine has a dog. I bought the dog a selection of treats so as not to leave him out of the festivities.

Bit of an odd one from me.
We had to have Thicky the cat put down on the Sunday before Christmas. She was the last of two sisters that we had been owned by since 2001.
Since we have lived in this house we have been feeding a stray cat that lived under the shed. She would never come into the house as ours would see her off the moment she took a step over the threshold.
However, as I got back to the house after the midnight service on Christmas morning she followed me in and has now decided to adopt us.
So I suppose we gave our new pet a home for Christmas.

Lovely story Jim, despite your loss you now have a grateful new friend to share your home with.

Very sorry to hear of your loss Jim, losing a pet is never easy.
Our two dogs were spoiled rotten on Christmas day, venison steak (home butchered road kill) with left over duck pate, pig in blanket and a tiny drop of gravy.

My condolences Jim.

Although my new naughty male cats give me joy I do miss my female cat Molly as she was my first proper pet I adopted as an adult so was special to me as she gave me company when I lived on my own in London.

Thank you folks.
It was very sad to say goodbye to Thicky as it was when we had to have Fatty put down in the summer. It was a very odd feeling coming into the house on Monday last week and not having something furry running up to me and demanding food or a fuss.

The new cat has settled herself in very well although is currently not speaking to me as I fitted her with a collar and tag this morning. She is currently eyeballing the boy's defective guinea pig.

Sorry to hear about Thicky, Jim - but pleasing to hear about the new adoptee.

We were adopted by a neighbour's cat a few years ago. Eventually, the owners gave her to us as she was happier with us than with them - they'd kept one of her daughters who made mum feel unwelcome. Ironically, the daughter died before the mother.

At the moment we are hosting our daughter's cat who comes to us each Christmas (and sometimes for summer hols). Nice to have a cat around for a while, but it means we can't get a cat of our own as our 'grandcat' as we call her is a regular visitor. She was a stray in London who adopted my daughter and her husband. She seems equally at home here or in London. She has 'attitude' - she'd be very much at home as an Eastenders cast member - though she is beginning to mellow in her old age.

Bought her a new cat toy for Christmas which periodically she plays with somewhat manically - there's still a fair amount of kitten in her.

We lost our dog a few months ago, but always got her one toy for Christmas which we wrapped in several layers of decorative paper. It was a delight to watch the process of the dog unwrapping the toy.
