Great news for the Lynton & Barnstaple

Post by Soar Valley Light » Tue Mar 06, 2018 8:41 pm

Exmoor National Park planning authority met today in Lynton to hear the four planning applications for the extension of the L&B through Paracombe, Blackmoor and on to Whistlandpound Reservoir. After due consideration they agreed to support the applications. Great news for the new company!

This will allow plans to be developed and progress made towards the next big step which will move the railway from a very modest affair; turning it into an undertaking well placed to re-establish virtually the whole of the original line and recreate something that everyone on this forum has an affection for. Maybe more importantly, something which will be a huge benefit to the economy of the community it will pass through and be a part of.

To mis quote a famous saying....

Perchance it waketh!

Good luck L&B

Andrew

Thankfully they managed to overcome the certain local who was very against the scheme (she owned a piece of the trackbed).
Looking forward to Lyn actually stretching its legs!

What a beautiful railway Andrew. Just looked on the site and was amazed at all the hard work that is getting put in to get the line extended. Well done to all concerned.

One thing I noticed though, the old black and white photo showed β€œLYN” with a large cowcatcher on the front, but the one that is now running only has a really small one. Do you know the reason, if any for it.

That is indeed great news. Spent a happy day a few years ago tracing the line's trackbed.
