Blowtorch and 220g Butane cylinders

Post by dewintondave » Sun Jan 14, 2018 12:06 am

I bought a handy blow torch attachment that fits the common 220g butane gas cylinders. These cylinders are designed for horizontal use in a portable gas stove. With an adaptor I use them to fill model gas tanks, but due to the internal pipe (that ensures gas draw off in the stove) not all the gas can be accessed. This handy blowtorch will use up the remainder. I also used to use the remainder in raising steam in the steam powered diesel.

The steam powered diesel is my favourite build from you so far.

I have been looking for an angled blow torch head like that for a while so thanks for the info. I need to use up my supply of threaded GoGas canisters before switching over to the cartridge type I believe these camping butane cans use?

It's all quite straight forward once you've got your first boiler explosion under your belt 8)

Whilst running on 'Glendreich' at the Bala Lake Railway last year, members of the Chester, Merseyside & East Clwyd Group showed us an alternative canister adaptor that gets over that stand pipe problem.

They are listed on eBay as 3 legged or tripod adapter/converter. The other nice feature is they are more compatible with the different EN417 screw adaptors - only 1 of my 3 different EN417 adaptors works with the other bronze/gold asian adaptors, but they all work with the 3 legged adaptor.
