Winter weather

Post by River Lin » Sun Dec 10, 2017 7:59 am

Hi all
Just putting it out there. Leicestershire police are saying only travel if you really have to. Weve got 1 inch of snow so far and snowing now.

Just an air of wintry desolation at Black Burton.

Those are very nice pictures.
Yet another reason why the photo competition ought to be revived.

Some lovely pictures there chaps. I always say that snow gives railways of all gauges and scales an air of timeless atmosphere.

Pictures of the Charnwood Forest Light were impossible today, I was called out to assist in keeping Santa moving up and down the GCR but as I went through the garden everything was under three inches of snow. There was noting visible to photograph!

Hi David,

I booked on at about 10:50, I suspect it was your train that spent rather a long time standing at the down inner home signal just after that. Apologies if it was, we were getting a deseasel out of the up through siding and round to the south end ready to go and top and tail the second set.

I'm pleased you enjoyed the trip, a lot of effort went into making the job run that day, happy visitors makes it all worthwhile.

Last monday we had about 4 inches in Holland. I got the Hf110 out for a plow, but I had to help a little. It took a while however before the boiler started to build up steam, since I keep the water in a dark and cold space in the shed. By the time I was able to run a train it was already too dark to make pictures. I hope we will have some more snow this year, since steaming through the snow is more fun than in a one horse open sleigh..

Snow has gone a few weeks ago, so no snow plowing. I've got a video from last year though:

And one of the very beginning of the railway with my first live steam loco: the Beck "Anna".

Hope it weakens the pain a bit
