WDLR wagons

WDLR D type wagon,

I see that there are now three versions of these on the market at the moment. Swiftsixteen, Slaters and Andel Models.

I like Robs stuff as it goes together well and I have built a few Andel kits which were okay. Slaters 7mm stuff, I have built dozens of wagons and they fall together.

So this leaves me with a dilemma. Which ones to go for?

What is peoples opinion of the various kits?

If I had unlimited time I would scratch build the bodies and use Robs Bogies but tempus fugit as they said in Rome!

I'm building three class D wagons to go with my Baldwin 4-6-0 using Wrightscale bogies which are simply superb, but because they are metal and so realistic Its put me off having a resin body, so I am laser cutting the body from ply and am then cnc machining the straps from perspex which will be the masters for a white metal mould. I have nothing against resin as my Bowaters wagons I have made use the same material its just that I want to do the lovely metal bogies justice.

Funny you should say that, all the items I looked at on his web site show out of stock. Has he finished?

I think you can take it he has, even though he hasn't said as much himself.

Perfect World doing a D as well for people with deep pockets.

I had a go with Andel WD bogies and they were a disappointment. I spent some time modifying the draw gear. Partly to make them more realistic and so they would work better. In the end, they rolled well on their own but hopeless with a coach body on top.

I was looking at Wrightscale but he had none available.

I am looking at Swift Sixteen now. Has anybody any experience?

In comparison with the Swift Sixteen ones, the Andel D class look like sucked toffees.

The detail is just not there and they are so fragile and easily broken especially the door bangers, frame stretchers and brakes.
