Small Welsh Coal Wagon Kit

Post by Alan P » Sat Jul 18, 2015 11:41 am

I noticed a while ago that Rik did a post on a Barrel Wagon Kit from a supplier on ebay.
I had been looking at the other kits from this supplier 'vwmonkeyblue' and decided that
a few of the Small Welsh Coal Wagons would look great behind my Regner Vincent.
As i wanted 4 i got in touch with the seller and ordered them from him directly.
A very nice chap by the name of Phil Sharples. Like Rik was with his Barrel Wagon Kit
i have to say that i am very impressed. Both with the service from Phil and the quality of the kit.

This kit cost £7.50 and includes every thing bar paint & glue. Having seen some models on ebay
go for ridiculous prices recently, a 3 car Locomotion Railbus Set £1,139.99, Phil's kits represent
for me the more affordable side of our hobby! If you are on this forum Phil, i'd just like to say
thanks very much and keep the kits coming. :)

Here are a few pictures and you can see the full build on my website here http://www.alspcs.com/SWCWK.html

I've got a rake of these. Great little kits!

I've got two more to build to run with my Simplex.

I think I might just add a rake to the stock for Flagg Fluorspar!

I'm also very tempted by the side-tippers :)

Jack - can you post a link that'll enable me to order some? A search on 'vwmonkeyblue on ebay doesn't turn anything up!

Here we go :) He doesn't seem to have much on at the moment but its always worth sending him a message to if you want to buy a few kits.
Thanks
Jack

I have built a few of these kits and can second, or third the recommendations. Amazing value for money and they build up into nice little models.

Finally got the first 2 finished. I wanted the same sort of effect that Phil achieved with the ones in his ebay listing.
So i asked him how he painted them and he very kindly gave me a few tips. Anyway here is the end result. Only another 6 to go :?

I don't think so, everything he has listed on ebay at the moment is 32mm.

I have finally managed to finish 4 of them.

With a full load of coal they are very stable runners.
