Brake van maker

Post by coaltipper » Fri Jul 17, 2015 5:57 pm

Hi Guys,

I have just bought a Roundhouse Lady Anne with Brake van which I could do with some advice.
I would like to know if anyone knows its maker? My other question is it is 45mm can I re gauge it to 32mm?.

It got a bit damaged in transit, one of the side lower pieces has broken off. Both were very well packed but the loco sustained a slight bend to the front buffer beam. So annoying because the seller spent a lot of thought and time packing them.

Very pleased with them both. Lady Anne was built for him for his 65th birthday and never run apart from setting up with air.

Thanks,
Jeff.

to find the gauge, measure between th insides of th wheels. If it is 28mm or thereabouts it is 32mm, otherwise 45 mm. do you know what gauge the loco is?. by the look of the finish they should both be the same.[/b]

Brake van maker

Post by coaltipper » Fri Jul 17, 2015 6:52 pm

Hi Graham,

They are both set to 45mm at present.
I know I can adjust the loco, but am trying to find out maker of the brake van hoping I could get a set of 32mm as they are not adjustable.

Regards,
Jeff.

I don't recognize the brake van. It looks quite a bit like an Accucraft W&L brake van but it's slightly different, especially the buffer beams. What's it made out of? Could it be home-made?

Maybe Accucraft 32mm wheels would fit, they have long axles so they might fit into the existing axle boxes without having to move the sole-bars. If you get IP wheels which was my other suggestion, you'd have to break off the sole-bars and move them inwards.

If you showed a picture of the underside of the van, maybe more people could help identify it. I don't know much about these things.

Thanks for your imput.

I have taken some more pictures.
It seems to be made of plastic.
It also has an opening hinged roof.
Inside I found stamped into the floor WYK22-5.

Thanks.

.
Could the 22-5 actually be 22.5 ? If so, it could indicate a scale of 1:22.5, which would make some sense in the context of 45mm.

However that in itself is no reason not to change gauge if thats what you want to do.

I think it is 45mm.
The gentleman I bought it from said it was a 65th birthday present from his late wife. The lady Anne and the brake van were built at the same time by a friend who also sadly passed away before he finished it. The loco was going to be lined hence not finished, the lining was given to me with the set.
Looking at it again I saw screws on the axles which I undid, this allowed me to remove a set.

Hi Guys,

Still cant find the maker.
Any way I have removed a set of wheels and would like to know if anyone can suggest where to get a set o 32mm wheels and axles because present ones are 45mm.

Total lengh of axle is 96.96mm end thickness 3.00mm to be able to fit present axle boxes.

If the van is made of resin then it could be a Garden railway specialists kit. It isn't listed on their website at the moment but I seem to remember most of the Welshpool stock listed a couple of years back. If it is one of their kits then they should be able to supply replacement wheels.
